Well, not really. I saw this lady on the side of the road with a sign that says “handmade furniture” and what appeared from the road to be outdoor cedar furniture, which I need, so I stopped. Before I knew what I was looking at I asked her- “is this cedar, is it ok to leave outside? “It’s Ash” she said, and in a big booming joking voice with a huge smile, “if you leave my furniture outside, I’ll kick your Ash” I instantly liked her and knew I’d be buying something. Turns out she lives near Peavey Mfg and gets their rejects and cut offs for a song, maybe free, she wouldn’t tell me, Peavey will only use perfectly clear wood. She doesn’t use any screws or nails, it’s glue and dowel construction. I picked out a large rocker and asked “Is it OK if I kept it on my front porch” “You local” “Yep” “Well since your local I’ll let you have it, and you can use it on your porch, just bring it in when it’s cold” “Sold, but I can’t fit it on my motorcycle, you deliver?” “Sure, I’ll bring it by and let you know if your spot on the porch is OK. You picked the BMW model.” “BMW?”, looking over at my bike “Big Maine Woman”
Nice looking chair and funny story. How many pooches will fit on that and are they willing to share it with you? Ive been considering building one similar to that made out of Eastern red cedar we've milled.
Simply meaning she sounds as if she is a likeable character, independent thinker, fun loving, etc, etc. No other hidden agenda or meaning.
We chatted a bit more when she delivered. She was raised on Long Island, went to school for furniture making in Philly then decided to go to Alaska to fish and make dog sleds, got tired of the cold and dark so moved to Key West to do whatever they do in Key West for awhile then when her trailer blew away in a hurricane decided to move to Maine because she heard the land was cheap and people friendly.
