Have a lot of things that are having an off year. The false indigo (baptisia) and rhodies out front flowered, but were not their usual showy selves. Most iris didn't deign to bloom. OTOH, the variegated weigala and peonies (pictured previously in this thread) were stunning and the azaleas in the newer bed, while still small plants, did very well. But there is the ninebark. Year after year they put out flowers, but they just aren't showy or flashy and they are easy to miss. But every year I am stunned by the beauty of the after-flower. Even with the copper foliage, the red stands out and is attention getting The butterfly weed has just started going. And, seeing the baptisia pods (in the background), I gotta get out there and snip them or they will be all over (I already have plenty of babies thank you). Actually, I wouldn't mind the babies, but the stalks are woody and stabby so need to be actively cut down to the ground versus things like the butterfly weed that can basically be raked out.
Oh yeah, the foxgloves in the "woods" out back are also looking nice. I transplanted 1 yellow foxglove over there a couple of summers ago. There are no yellows back there now, but they have sported into light pink and a patch of darker pink. The lighter ones nearly glow at night.
More blooming things I had to prop up the tallest lily stalk. These are generic lilies from a dollar store a number of years ago. My Turks cap lily. I need to thin out around it. The whole bed needs thinning. Variegated hosta sending out its flower stem Common day lillies in bloom. Hydrangeas are blooming Blueberries are ready. And the gooseneck loostrife is crowding into a big hosta. They'll be thinned back, for sure. Maybe put in a root block/edging.
Ron T the garden looks great. Everything is so much farther along than our area. I think my peonies might bloom this week with the sunshine we finally are getting.
Another opened, same plant but facing out. The greens under it, set off the colors nicely. And the blueberries are ripening.
What is it? Anything around here is just getting into flower mode. No ripening fruit yet. My peonies are just starting to bloom. My roses are starting to bloom so I have been able to pick a few for the house. I noticed that the lavender is blooming in amongst the weeds.
The coneflower and balloon flowers are coming into their own. As are the gooseneck loostrife. And there's the stately spires of cohosh. They are ~6.5/7feet tall.
My peonies finally bloomed but now they are being beaten down by the rain each evening. Thanks everyone for posted the wonderful garden flowers.
My Butterfly Milkweeds did well again this year. I sprinkled a bit of leftover commercial fertilizer on them from some soybean ground. I should of snapped a pick a few days ago but forgot.
