As soon as we got our Jotul F500, we tore it apart, cleaned and sealed everything, and replaced a few parts (baffle board, ceramic mat, seals, glass, brick or two). Then, I wondered what would happen if any of those parts failed, how would we heat?

Over the course of the next few months, we picked up a full set of gasketing, stove cement, bricks, baffle, ceramic mats, bottom grating, kept the old glass, etc. That stuff was all over the place here, most kinda fragile, and no good place to stash it except for way out of the way.

So, this got built. The top is a scrounged dresser top, and the rest bits of lumber found handy. The kiddo's dear girfriend painted it when they were here together last. Rope handles and "hinge" went on today.

We can sit on it and tend the fire, or warm up. Loaded, it must weigh 60#.

    A fun project.

Now hey thats cool. I like the platform idea.. I thought about something similar, but didn't know what heat it would take, so didnt consider storage underneath too much.
We raised our stove on some pavers, much easier on the back to load and clean.

Yes it is good to raise it up.
I built it out of 2x4s with plywood on top and then a sheet of cement board on top then porcelain tiles on the cement board so it will take the heat and never crack. :)

You both had great ideas for storage.

I guess we'll wait on different storage options. We're considering either a bigger or second wood stove in the farther reaches.
I also really wanted the Kitchen Queen stove. But the run around 900#, so I feel obligated to support the floor from the basement before installing that.

If we keep this stove here, raising it up more than it is, and on a platform might be cool. Maybe tall enough to have rolling drawers, maybe on 3 sides. Maybe room under for stove tools, fire starters, kindling.....

    Thinking going on.

I don't have anything fancy. I have started sourcing spare parts that are on a shelf. I have a spare blower, air filters, and door gaskets. I need to get an extra thermal switch and relay switch and maybe a cheap thermostat.

My woodstove won't be any good if a $20 part fails and I cannot get the electric power to my blowers.

    Yup.
And for all the money saved, a few spare parts is reachable!
