So. I'm finding it impossible to get tree length wood delivered so I was desperate enough to but 1.5 cords of old elm for $75.

I like to sell some wood each year, and would prefer to buy in tree length for that, all personal stuff I cut on my own land . How to do you 20220620_121423.jpg 20220620_122616.jpg rate my purchase?

I’d rate it pretty good. 1.5 cords of elm for $75 is a lot of heat for not much money. Just as long as you’re not in a hurry to use it. Even though the ends are cracking its still got a bunch of drying to do once you get it bucked up and split

Gotta hand it to you. You gave that round many more whacks than I even thought of giving it.

Elmhaven, my stack of Elm rounds, remain at the back of my wood yard. It'll be there until the bark releases. Who knows....I might even have a hydraulic splitter by then.

Here's the thread and pictures. Live from MikeInMa's Spring GTG..... kinda

Looks like some decent wood, but im one of the elm haters. You have a hydro so it should handle it. Nice Goldilocks size too. Shoulda offered $100 and have them throw in all the splits too.

You having trouble finding free wood down there Steve? Lots around here on FBM.

Does it take long like oak? It's been cut to 4 feet for 2 years. The top stuff seemed a lot light than the st9ff touching ground!

I do a lot of hand splitting. But this stuff will be saved for hydraulics!

OOPS! :emb: I didnt see who the OP was. Your avatar is very similar to a CT member i know.

Nice set up sir. Put the wood in the greenhouse and dry it faster. Elm doesnt take as long as oak. One year for it once SS.

If you were in the top left corner of the country you’d be waiting for the authorities to arrive because that was a steal. :sherlock:

It seems like the free CL wood has almost disappeared over the past few months here in the Greater Seattle area. o_O

I've called at least 15 loggers trying to buy truckloads, but nobody has wood or they don't have anyone to cut.

Usually you call a few and hound them for months and they finally show up. Now I'm calling and just getting told no. And there are two big sellers near me that are being told the same.

One said he could sell 200 truckloads right now, but has nobody to cut. Others won't haul cause of fuel prices even though I've offered to pay extra?!

Rubber roofing will dry that wood up pronto.Try calling a rubber roofing company and ask them for some of the tear off rubber and cover that Elm with it.The Elm will dry so beautifully it'll burn beyond your imagination. Also the best wedge that I've come across for splitting Elm are The Aluminum Oregon splitting grenades. You'll need two or three depending on the diameter. You can get them on ebay.
