Neighbor brought over a couple hickory logs and also had a nice , straight oak fall due to saturated grounds. Got the hickory cut and split small for smoke box and will be starting on the old oak soon. This 100 plus is not conducive to productivity for my old butt tho. Like eating an elephant I guess. One small bite at a time !
There for a while, awesome scores kept finding me in the dead of summer. I couldn't say no. As long as it was below 85 degree's, I got after it albeit nice and slow. Nice little stash of premium hardwoods.
buZZsaw BRAD looking back at my first couple posts on FHC I found a pic of my first go round with elm. A friend knew an arborist doing a removal and dumb me said I'll take it.. This one I tried splitting at full frozen temps. No bueno. So I don't always love a freebie, lol! This was probably about '10-'11.
Nice stuff there. Not a fan of hoarding in the heat, but its a year round addiction for me. You still have to take one bite at a time to eat the elephant, but it depends how often you take a bite! Stay cool and hoard on!
Yeah free elm isn’t really free. Not a fan. I do have one customer that requests nothing but elm. He is an Indian guy and they do a camp out pow wow thing and a cultural thing to only burn elm at their fire all weekend. He takes them in logs so I don’t have to split any. My splitter does ok on elm but it is never what I would call enjoyable.
Hickory and oak! Sweet! I'll take all the elm I can get...so long as it is dead and bark almost all off. Then it makes excellent firewood.
