Getting our first stove hooked up this week!

So we're getting our little stove hooked up this week - probably Wednesday. Unfortunately I didn't take any shortcuts and it's gonna run almost 2 grand. We had tile in our chimney that was questionable so it's getting busted out in favor of an insulated stainless liner. We're also gonna have the Mason do some work on the exterior and one small section of the interior to eliminate cold spots. The exterior work is cosmetic. I will also post pics of the finished product.

 

Taking the time for the insulated liner equals safety and peace of mind. The next part is soon to come burning:firepit: your nice dry wood and then the fun part- the Hoarders dream - cutting more Firewood!

 

What stove is that?

 

It's just a little pleasant hearth 1800. Got it scratch and dent from lowes cheap. It's very small but a friend of mine has one in his shed that's basically an outdoor bar and it works well for the size. We bought the house in March and I have been getting as much wood as possible since then but none of it can be used this year. My father in law quit burning like 4 years ago so we are using his stacks this year and I may buy a little kiln dried from a good supplier here if need be.

The guy doing the chimney said the tiles could probably be repaired and used but I wanted the safest possible setup so we went with the liner - it's not a flex either. Figured while they were here I'd have some small cosmetic work done too. All in all I had budgeted a little more than we are gonna end up spending so that's a good thing.

 

So far this is all I've brought back from my father in law but I would conservatively say he has 1.5 cords. This is all the small stuff and what's left are big splits like you see mixed in here. It's mostly ash with some cherry and oak.

 

Heck that's a good sized fire box, how many square feet do you have?

2600. It's basically a 1300 ranch house but the stove is in the basement which adds 1300 more because the entire basement is finished. We started off with this because it was cheap and wanted to put the money into the chimney for safety at first. Even if it does a decent job I suspect we'll buy a larger nicer stove next year.

 

Lol.. I just noticed my wife's head is blocking the view of the stove in the first picture.

 

Well, you will be nice and toasty in the basement watching TV for sure

 

That's the goal for now. We'll be hosting a lot of football parties. We have a lot more work to complete in that room before it's ready. We left it alone till last week when we bought the couch. Still needs a lot of furnishings and lighting. The goal is our ultimate husband/wife cave.

That will be a common occurrence once it's fired up. Enjoy the heat, it can't be beat...........

 

I never saw that. She's my cat - my wife's is a little gray one. I was never an animal person but I love those little buggers.

 

Pets grow on ya. We have three cats, all Himalayan, and two labs. The all get along reasonably well and are good company for us. Kids are all gone on their own. we don't travel so pets are a good fit.

 

Any idea on the firebox size HD?
