Here is my latest score from marketplace. After looking at the marketplace pictures I thought this score was Maple. After going to the pickup site I believe this to be some type of Cherry. I'm going to ask the more knoledgeable
I agree with the Bradford verdict. That’s got to be the largest I’ve ever seen. Usually they splinter apart in storms due to the combination of brittle wood and branching structure.
Bradford Pear sounds right. We have a couple those in the yard, and they are brittle. We came home last summer after a strong storm to find a large branch across the driveway. It is respectable for burning, it's BTU rating is 21.6. Below are pics of the wood, although it's wet and has been exposed since last summer, and the leaves. Another sign of Bradford Pear is the holes from sap suckers.

Bradford pear is now considered invasive in Ohio. So I think there'll be alot avtnear me soon. But normally they don't get very big
Looks like a Bradford to me. We had a big one in our yard in Denver. A spring snow brought 3/4 of it down on our roof. That was a fun rooftop chainsaw job. Burned well though!
Id say Bradford as well. Biggest ive ever seen. Splits weird, but decent firewood. Nice find there Rusty!
We had a wind storm a few nights ago, someone mentioned 70 mph winds, and most of the Bradford Pear tree mentioned in my previous post, came down. One branch made it through, but I went ahead and cut it down. I had just finished my wood hoarding till next season, and this happened, so more wood it is, on a 95 degree day. The wood is a light salmon color.
Yup typical of BP. Brittle wood. Ice storms and heavy snow do a number on them here too. I scrounged a piece at the dump recently. Kinda splits weird too.
I noticed the weird split of it last year, kind of wavy grain. I used my 025 to cut it up, since it's a lot of small trim work. There's a lot of waste and effort cleaning them up. It is good burning wood though.
