Sometimes we can get the bark off...lol The red oak has been cut about a month, it's coming off easy, usually 1 piece. The water oak bark is thinner and still tight. I'm taking it off so it will dry faster and stack neater, sometimes it has a big chunk hanging off the split. We are just getting started on the side yard. Got 15 loads from the front yard. Oh, they definitely are on us when working, 1 for Miz Carol stacking and 1 for me. We turn them on the wood stacks when we finish. Helps dry the splits. Air coming thru is much cooler than off the fan.
WinonaRail this is a good example of what the bark does sometimes My hunny had to leave early to keep 2 of the grandsons, so I finished up the rounds on the ramps and got it stacked. Almost finished the 2nd row This is the assorted pile...lol... Some pieces with big knots, some chunks, some that is short...where the wedge was cut from the butt section... Some almost punky, got to get 2 more totes for campfire wood.
How do you store the "seconds" and do they sell for a discount? Ill integrate them into my stacks and if too gnarly ill noodle to make them "prettier" and stack on top.
I'm going to store these in IBC totes. Give a little discount for campfire wood. The pieces with the big knots may go to a fellow at work if he cooks a hog again for Labor Day. Burns it in a barrel for coals. I did noodle most of the hickory uglies, had several rows in this stack. We're trying to get as much of this oak done as possible, quick.
Had a good morning on the woodyard, even with the high temps. This area is shaded until afternoon and we're able to have fans running. We got this pile of smaller, crooked and knotty logs bucked And staged for processing by 10:30AM Then we fired up the splitter. Made a nice dent in the stack Got the 2nd row finished and about 1/2 the last row done Our customer finished getting his cord from the left side rack. That worked out nice, we can start on filling that side again and not have to set up the splitter again......
Now I'm tired again just looking at what you accomplished. I'm doing some cutting on a MP score after work and I don't know if I'll have the energy!!
Our high today was 102°. Didn't cut wood today, we cut grass, 3 yards by 2:30.... Thanks for the encouraging words...
We haven't split any since Thursday morning last week. Friday evening we started moving more logs to the processing area from the stack on the right, there is some older logs behind those we need to do also. After a thunderstorm shut us down, got up early Saturday morning and finished filling the cutting platform up. Then our son and his FIL, Frank, came over about 8AM. Loaded tractor on dump trailer and we went to the logging site. They helped load limb wood/skinnies, we are giving it to Frank's mom. They will cut it to size for her. Our son rolling up the rachet strap 2nd load Probably 2 more loads to go that we already have cut.
