Good point...lithium battery fires are no joke!
Pretty hard to put out from what I hear too.

Not EV, but along the same lines, just heard "the administration" is pushing ethanol (again) too...does anyone over there in la la land realize that producing corn fuel is a net loss of energy?! (Takes more diesel to make it that its worth BTU wise)

Burning what could otherwise be eaten is part of the plan. The scoffers will scoff at that statement until later this year when people are going hungry. Eh, who am I kidding? They’ll still think it’s “just how things are” :picard:

Tom Gocze American Solartechnics lost his shop 2 Sunday's ago from a lithium drill battery left on the charger over the weekend. It was a steel building and still standing but the metal siding and roof are done and he has to have a structural engineer check the framework. Lost a lot of chit in that fire.

It does make one hell of a boom though! A house of questionable gendered individuals had a lovers spat last winter a couple miles from my home. Propane heat in the house. Tank blew and landed in the neighbors garage 300 feet away. Mysteriously one of the fellas met his end in a traffic accident a few weeks later, cause TBD.

While back some rich kid crashed his Tesla which then caught on fire. The local cellar savers said they were way underequiped to put the car fire out. Just stood back and made sure it didn’t spread.

The fire foam whatever it called, the environmentalist crowd is pushing to ban. That’s what it takes to put out these kinds of fires. There’s a point of common sense that needs to start coming into play here somewhere. But common sense isn’t quite as common today as once was.

I would take it a step further and add that there is also a large crowd that will always be naysayers to new technology as well. You can find some great quotes from over 100 years ago stating how cars would never replace a horse and buggy. Heck, even Ford’s own accountant (I believe, not 100% sure but somebody in his inner circle) wouldn’t buy stock in his company because it would never catch on.

Tom likes his cheap Ryobi cordless stuff. I missed his radio show last Saturday morning and hadn't heard of the fire.

I have to visit him twice a month. Known him since 2014ish. He’s a really nice guy and both his kids work for him and are good too. I can attest he’s on the frugal side of things. He’ll probably stop buying ryobi after this I’d speculate.

Yes in economic terms labeled early and late adopters. But many technologies failed also, steam engines for cars for example

There’s still a Stanley steamer around here that I see every summer out and about. They were originally designed in Maine out by sugarloaf ski area. Keep a smidge lit and they’d go forever with just a water refill!

Yes. Not many places here to stop and fill up with propane, most fleet units have a pumping station on site. RH Foster here does have a pump for “auto gas” but I’ve never seen anyone at it.

Yeah, about two and a half.
Maybe six months if we're lucky, but I doubt it.

Meh...not gonna do the tit for tat thing...I'll just leave this here and be be done with this. With food prices already on the rise, and said to be some full blown shortages of some grains soon, we need not be using perfectly good food resources to make fuel. The whole thing is nothing more than another way to line some politicians pocket...same with EV's being shoved down our throats prematurely. It's about money, power, and control.

    * Adding up the energy costs of corn production and its conversion to ethanol, 131,000 Btu are needed to make 1 gallon of ethanol. One gallon of ethanol has an energy value of only 77,000 Btu. "Put another way," Pimentel said, "about 70 percent more energy is required to produce ethanol than the energy that actually is in ethanol. Every time you make 1 gallon of ethanol, there is a net energy loss of 54,000 Btu."
