I went to start my hydraulic splitter this morning, which is a 25 ton dirty handtools model. Pull the chain to start it after doing all the normal stuff and the chain just pulls freely with no resistance in which to start the motor. I’m guessing this is some thing that happens fairly routinely, but I haven’t dealt with it yet. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks in advance!
I would guess that you will need to remove the recoil cover to see what happened. Maybe the engagement paws broke off?
Thanks guys. I ended up pulling the string short and quick and I have good resistance again like normal. I’ll take it.
Suggest just buying a recoil or the parts to rebuild soon as the new method may fail soon also. While you should never do this, I pulled the recoil from my lost hated lawn mower last summer when the battery died. I nascar started the 12hp with a 3/4 inch drill. Not safe, but till I got the new battery♂️
Maybe it just has small wood chips in it. I'd unbolt it and inspect it. Worst that happens when you take it off is all the innards go flying and you now have a mechanical puzzle. The ones I've taken off didn't, but I was just replacing a pull cord.
