My neighbor across the footpath from me got his two trunked river birch cut down today. My tree service buddy gave him a great deal. He took care of all the branches and leaves and I took almost lal of the wood save a handful of Rottens and knotties. I ended up getting probably close to a cord of wood as it was 2.5 truckloads. Super heavy beautiful stuff. Stoked! He bucked almost all of them up 16". I'll have to cut down a few double length pieces but I'm fine with that. Brought the 4 workers and him a bottle of cold water afterwards as a small thank you.
Great score there. It dries and goes to punk fast. Super light when dry not like the other birches. Tough to hand split.
Yeah don't forget it makes a mess!!! Just taking it out of the truck and stacking it I had to sweep up a ton of bark. I scored a tiny bit of river birch before but haven't burned it yet. This wood will be for 2023 winter so it should be nice and dry by then.
