Hopefully you get the chance to meet he & Miss Carol in person one day. Great folks!
T.Jeff Veal, nice work on the rigging and dropping of that leaner brother! Always a little pucker factor on those. I too have used that prayer more than a few times lol.

Throw bag & line plus a heavy sling shot or air cannon is way cheaper.

We used a throw bag and jet line on the first 2 trees. I have a bigger rope to pull cable up.
Need to find a good slingshot. Thanks for the idea...:handshake:...

T.Jeff Veal you want a bigshot or APTA for pull line installation. I can easily and accurately hit about 75 feet. Higher with a little more effort.

I was on my 7 days off, so we made some nice progress.
Friday morning, we finished cutting up the tops of a couple trees. Got 1 load by late lunch 0624221525.jpg
Our goal for that afternoon was rigging and dropping the big red oak at the corner of the pool. It was tall with limb weight and lean towards the corner of the house. It was too big at the base for the climbing stand, so a 10' step ladder got it high enough to attach. I was able to climb and trim some limbs, attaching the cable about 30' up. Found out I haven't used a climbing stand in years, little pucker factor a few times, wasn't used to his stand. 24179.jpeg
Lot of wedge pounding, tension on the cable, we dropped it 90° to the lean.
    Sorry for the long video...

After it was on the ground safely, Brad, the homeowner, told me to take a break, he would do the limbing 0624221836a.jpg
The 9' butt cut headed for the trailer 0624221913.jpg
Got the 2nd load of the day ready for home. 0624222023.jpg
Saturday, our son and his FIL came with us, got another load of skinnies and then we dropped 2 sweet gums... 0625221204.jpg

Started off the week Monday morning, with very dry conditions. Bucked and moved the gum logs from Saturday 0627221641.jpg
Then we started dropping more oaks

Miz Carol taking a break among the victims 0627221642.jpg
We got 1 load that morning 0627220924.jpg 0627221104.jpg
The neighbor with the mill came up and wanted the rest of the pine logs, we moved those for him Monday afternoon.
Tuesday morning, we bucked and loaded what was down from Monday. 0628221150.jpg
Then we started on the back left corner. 0628221505.jpg
Dropped 9 trees here...Brad is putting a pole barn here 0628221728.jpg
These trees are tall. This stem was 62.5' to where it broke off. 0628221807_HDR.jpg
2nd load of the day. Had a big oak do a partial split on me. 0628221936_HDR.jpg

Wednesday, we cleared what oak we had down. Made another load 0629221535_HDR.jpg
The resident doe and her fawns stopped by to check us out. We see them regularly. 0630220901.jpg 0630220901a.jpg
That afternoon took down a couple gums...

Thursday started good, then hung a big root with the grapple while the tractor was rolling. Heard a loud pop and fluid sprayed. Blew 1 of the metal lines 0630221215.jpg
Of course, didn't have any wrenches with us. Trip home, got wrenches, took line off, it's 1 long piece. Took it to our NAPA store. Guy was able to fix it... 0630221628.jpg
New line is about $30-40, but shipping is $100...:bug:...
Must have gotten our quota for the week. Log yard is full again 0701221058a_HDR.jpg
Brought tractor home Friday morning, moved enough to finish this pile. About 7.5-8 cords here 0701221253_HDR.jpg
We are in the area behind the pool now.

We were back at the site July 6th. It was a sweet........gum........ day.
Carried a small load over to a friend to use for erosion control. He also wanted the hollow log, we noodled it in half, he wants to make something with it 0706221054_HDR.jpg
Then we loaded the saw logs we had already cut 0706221206_HDR.jpg
Proud of the F150 and trailer. Heaviest load we have pulled, I think.... 0706222301.jpg
The mill said they would take more, so we cut 3 more big gums down.
    0706221524_HDR.jpg
Gave it a nudge to make sure it went in the right direction, pool is behind the tractor 0706221526_HDR.jpg
Those 3 trees made the 2nd load 0706221549_HDR.jpg
    Another heavy load 0706222301a.jpg
Haven't been back since then, was on quarantine and then work week.
Did start another stack of oak logs... 0722222104.jpg
Making room to dump loads next week. Hope to be back on-site Monday morning.

I say about the same thing when the cut isn't quite right, the wind is off, or there are a lot of dead branches overhead, or when things are starting to go wrong and I have to scramble and hear His still quiet to get it not to be a disaster....

This is our biggest year so far, harvesting wise.
We do have several orders in already. 1 cord has been picked up, so far.
