Hang-on to your wallets everyone, the price of refined fuel it about to go sky high!

I retired from LyondellBasell three years ago, and now they announced that it would shut their Houston refinery by 2024 due to the heavy financial burden of upgrading its more than 100-year-old infrastructure. In the interim, the company will continue serving the fuels market, which is expected to remain strong near-term. The refinery was built by Sinclair Refining in 1918 and has been with Lyondell since the company spun off from Atlantic Richfield in 1989. Currently, 550 employees work at the plant, who the closure will displace. The refinery is one of the largest refineries in the United States designed to process heavy-sulfur crude oil into clean fuels including reformulated gasoline and low-sulfur diesel. Other products include heating oil, jet fuel, olefins feedstocks, aromatics, lubricants and petroleum coke.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the radical new ESG "score" or something like that where these woke lenders won't lend, or lend at current rates because of the "E" part, environmental.
    Look it up.

Bet they get a ton of green stamps to rebuild from various govt sources, course a complete tear down and rebuild wood likely take about 6-10 years plus apx 4 years for engineering. Then add in the EPA. Just shutting down will present various problems also, just can't flip a switch and walk away.

If the country makes it past this Presidential Administration, the next Democratic President will put the stake in the heart of the oil/gas business. Will they be putting the stake in the heart of the American citizen, as well?

Interesting to me wondering how this effects ERCOT and what it’s response will be for fuel security in the region.

I spent time at Amoco at Whiting. Huge place and the density of small business supported by the plant is where my mind went first when I saw this.

As you are well aware politics need to stay out.
I see no harm in reminding of that . I would think mods would agree as well .

There is always some leeway in most given instances.

The last thread that got locked down was for good reason.

You can't expect people to live with their head buried in the sand like ostriches.

God. We can turn to God. He gave us lots and lots of it. We just need to be unchained fully to recover it. Real simple.

Not trying to argue about God being in charge BUT for the oil crisis can I suggest something closer.. Let’s get oil from our allies a close ally namely :canada:

Alberta tar sands; get it too a Great Lake and ship it too an area that needs jobs.. there has to be some area around rust belt.. the pipe line will be to controversial to be fast enough.. Not against any country or religion BUT our other oil options are Middle East. That’s people that hate USA and been at war since before Christ
    Venezuelan.. Another headache
    Russia. Cold War; Ukraine etc

Canada major resource exporter, close geographically, friendly group of generally nice folks..

Alas Winston Churchill said it best Americans will make the right choice; after trying every other option

This post may be geopolitical BUT it seems pretty difficult to argue with logically
