We went to the site on Monday the 16th, combined the burned piles. Found enough hot coals to start burning again, moved 2 more piles to the fire Then we dropped 2 oaks, 2 gums and a beech We had some logs already bucked and added enough to get a load That pile was almost gone when we left... We weren't feeling to well that day, so after a week of Covid and a week of work, we made it back today. Loaded the logs we had left and dropped more trees today. Got a load of oak, hickory, beech and maple. We have about 20 more trees to drop and the front yard will be done I even got a salt line on my shirt...lol...
The front yard is starting to look quite naked. The funny thing is that when he gets someone to landscape it, they will probably plant some trees.
We were back on site Wednesday. I used the app that The Wood Wolverine has. It said the was a Southern Sugar Maple... We got 2 loads done yesterday. 1st load 2nd load. This is the biggest we have cut on the property so far. 32" bar on the MS461 We put the cable on this one to pull it, didn't want it going the wrong way. It would have done some major damage to the house
Nice! Did I miss it or forget, is the landowner going to grind stumps? I see you cutting them low which tells me they probably aren't going to get dug or pushed out.
Thanks. Had a lot of practice on this site. Had a few that weren't so good. The real test will be the side and back yards...more to come...
Homeowner did a video of the big tree coming down. Wish he had been closer... This was the drop zone. It took awhile to clean up the top, this was the tree that had the massive PI vines on it. I cut them about 3 weeks ago, so it dries up some.
The 3 huge brush piles This 1 was started from the beginning. It has most of the PI vines on it These other 2 were built lately. He said he was going to burn today We have 2 piles of skinnies/limb wood for our son's FIL and his mom
Dropping the last trees in the front yard Thursday afternoon. I forgot my hard hat at first. Put it on after a couple trees...... A nice little red oak. Got 42' straight ill the crook Tall skinny sweet gum The homeowner, Brad, was off this week, he was a big help, limbing and bucking. A nice hickory, didn't feel like pounding wedges when the tractor was handy The last corner.
All the trees have been dropped in the front yard. We still have some stumps to cut off. We have 3 oak logs and 2 hickory trees to buck for the next load. Last full load Before we started, view from front of the house View from the road now Best count on yield... 14 trailer loads of hardwoods to our place... 1 trailer load of big sweet gum to the mill. 2 loads of pine saw logs to the neighbor Probably close to 2 more loads of pine for the neighbor and almost 2 loads of smaller gum than we hope can be chipped, if not, we have a friend that wants some logs for erosion control...
That before pic is cool. I’ve heard that’s how many forests looked back in the day when natural forest fires occurred more regularly. Awesome work and a nice supply of wood!
Nice work TJV, but IMO that homeowner really screwed up having the lot cleared like that. Some people are strange like that...I worked with a guy that hated trees...he lived out in the middle of a field with a dead flat lot and not one tree anywhere...he said "F a tree, if I wanna see a tree I'll go to the forest!" Just weird (this in Ohio, so not like the almost treeless SW)
