So I went to start my 660 the other day and no go. Seems to be ignition problem. I changed the plug hoping that would solve the problem, but no luck. I check ignition wires and everything seems to be fine. And yes fresh gas.

maybe ignition module, but really have no idea and not sure how difficult that would be to change?

    any suggestions…

Your going to need to take your plug out and check for spark first. And see if the plug is wet after trying to pull it over a few times to make sure there is gass there.

Interesting, just pulled 10 times and checked plug, it’s not wet.

I’ll check fuel filter and line.

    what after that?

did you pull the plug out, ground it to the cylinder and with the switch in on, pull the cord to see if you have spark?

it usually is simple things, especially with newer saws. But ignition doesn’t sound like the issue.
    Dry plug after 10 pulls
    Fuel in the tank?
    Choke on?

If you have spark your half way there.

You may have a cracked impulse line causing it to lose suction for fuel.

That might be it. I’ll have to pull the carb to check that right?

Your going to have to check fuel lines now.

Pulled the fuel filter. Fuel line and filter looked ok, but I’m not 100% sure

You need to do some basic troubleshooting.

First off, pour some starting fluid or mix directly into the spark plug. Like just a squirt or 2 of the starting fluid or a tablespoon of fuel. Reinstall the spark plug and see if it burps.

If it does, then you probably have some kind of fuel delivery issue.....or you could have a situation where you have a massive air leak which is preventing it from choking/starting. On my 034 Super I had to bend the throttle cable from the trigger to the clutch because it was not closing the choke flap all the way.

Then you can check your fuel filters, fuel lines, fuel tank vent for cracks, leaks, and condition.

If that checks out, check your intake boot for rips, any loose clamps, make sure the cylinder bolts are tight......

When was the last time you cleaned out your air filter? Cleaned the carb? How old is the saw? If you pulled the cord 10 times and the plug is dry then you are not getting fuel to the cylinder.

You may need a gasket kit for the carb. You may have an air leak. You may have a ripped/blocked line or vent. It could be anything. You've got spark so that's good.

Put a few drops of mix in the spark plug hole or carb intake and see if it pops. My 660 is not getting enough fuel and Kevin said to check fuel/impulse lines. You can pinch them and they should feel soft. Also, if I remember correctly, Pinch the fuel line while off the card, shake the saw a couple time and when you release fuel line it should squirt out fuel.

So I was going to look into my my 660 the other day , but I thought I give it a couple pulls first. Put on full choke and pops on first pull, put to start and sputtered and started on second pull, kicked out some smoke and stalls, pull a couple more times and starts and runs like it should, turn it off and starts right up again!

Can’t wait to get it into some wood and make sure it’s running right.

I’m wondering if the gas was bad, I hadn’t run it in awhile and it did have some gas in it, but I always run non-e with Stihl ultra mix. When I was checking the filer and gas line I did empty the tank and put some fresh mix it, it didn’t start that day… maybe it just had to sit with fresh gas a bit?
