I've looked up Elderberry when everyone started talking about the benefits, but I've never seen one in person. Just saw this bush the other day on the edge of the pasture. Is this Elderberry?
Your pictures look like a plant that grows along the river bank hereabouts, I’ve always called it elderberry. Always wanted to make some syrup or jelly from it, just one more thing that sounds fun and interesting that I don’t have time for
Sandhillbilly I understand. I'm going tontry to watch this and see what it does, and would like to do something with it..... but I'll be lucky to make that happen.
There is a plant ID app out there. It has a free trial period without restriction, it will ID canabis in the woods.
I'm starting to see it around more now that I've recognized it...roadsides and at work. Now to figure out what to do with the berries when the time comes, if I get any....
Jelly & Jam is the way to go there, although all that sugar may offset any of the good qualities of elderberries.
It's definitely elderberry. Now the question is black or red which you won't know until the berries are close to ripe. Most recipes/uses are for black. You can make an anti-viral tincture or syrup, turn it into wine, syrup and jelly or even make a pie. For the most part you want them cooked and never consume/chew on anything but the berries, best used cooked except for medicinal purposes, the plant itself is poisonous. Around here red is native so I had to plant black varieties. Good luck with finding something tasty to make
