Yeah Ive blown enough time already. Have t split any real quantity of wood in two years. Wanna get back in the groove.

Folks I noticed Timberwolf makes “rough top” conveyor belts too. They do also offer cleats.
Looked at that conveyor last night. It has what I consider a rough top belt. I think it would work fine unless it’s full of snow or ice. Can’t really install cleats the way it’s designed with the belt tucked up tight underneath.
Same company that sells that iron rhino has a 16’ TW in stock,,,,supposedly. But that’s fully assembled. Can’t imagine what shipping would cost. Basically 6 grand for the unit. Has more bells and whistles but not entirely sold on the design. Tires seem far forward which means it has little reach just like the rhino.
    I’ll do more pipe dreaming.

I think so. I expected to need to tweak it. After running it twice and standing back while holding my chin in a thoughtful gaze I decided I just don’t want to spend the time and effort revamping it. I still think it could work if done right. Let’s just say it’s close but not there. To make it to there would need a complete makeover :)
I’ll need to build a set of grizzly bars for a conveyor or for the kinetic trough. Might as well just build one set for whatever conveyor I get and leave the experiment behind. If I were younger,,,,,,I’d never give up.

I'm with the others on finding an old square hay bale elevator. Most farms that feed cattle now are either baling large rounds or big squares and likely have one sitting around getting vey dusty. While it might take some effort to make it work for you at least you have a good platform from which to start.
Best of luck in your search!

When using a hay elevator for firewood it is best to keep your drive belt a little loose so you have some slippage if a split gets caught sideways it will break one of the chains . A friend of mine that sold a lot of firewood used a hay elevator for awhile but said he was always repairing chain. Couple years ago a young fellow brought one here to a charity wood cutting , it plugged often and after awhile it broke a chain. An ear corn elevator has one chain in the middle and I place the splits on one at a time. Haven't broke a chain so far . I did remove everyother flight from the chain.

So I told the guy I’d buy it last Friday. Was gonna raid the bank and get cash tomorrow. Got a message today he’s not selling now. I imagine he found out how long it would take to make a longer one? Whatever, Iz a little miffed. Now I’m starting over trying to find one for sale in stock somewhere. If anyone has any leads on a supplier let me know.
