In the market for a decent pressure washer. Considering Stihl from OPE dealer. Dont need pro quality, but reliable unit for occasional use maybe six times year. Home use and and sometimes for work. I thought of going electric but gas seems to be more ideal for my needs. Price important too.
Any Stihl owners? Big box brand okay? Thoughts/input FHC? Thanks in advance.

I'm very happy with my Simpson. I believe I have the 3300 psi model. Don't know anything about the Stihl unit.

Got a generac at work and it’s been good for weekly use for three + years. Starts east too. I have an older Troy built at home and have out tons of hours on it. Did have to change the pump out two years back, but it was $60 on Amazon and a quick easy fix. if I was buying now, like most small engines, I’d look for Honda engine and easily serviced pump probably.

It is all about the pump. That is the heart of the unit.

The rest of the unit doesn't do much except hold it all together. May have a soap bottle and a couple other bells and whistles but it doesn't mean much as far as the actual washing.

Are your saws that dirty they need a PSI washer?

Just to add to my last post. Sure some have better motors than others as well.

Maybe a Honda on some and others might have a China clone. This will obviously relate to the price as well.
Not a fan of the imported stuff but for something that is not going to be used daily the clones are not a bad way to go.
Yeah I know , I said it............. Not a fan of them but hard to beat for something that gets used only on occasion.

I've have a 3000 psi Ridgid branded unit, it's got a Subaru engine and a cat pump, we've used it a whole lot washing logs for the mill with zero problems so far, it's probably got 200 - 300 hours on it now.

I also have a simpson with a honda motor also. It's a beast.
Being on well water I have to baby it it bit as it can pump more GPM than what my well pump can provide. It will peel paint if not careful.

I picked up a ryobi electric on the clearance rack that has been very good to my surprise for cleaning mowers, tractors siding, etc.

The biggest thing you want to look at is the GPM and PSI of the pump, to compare different machines multiply those 2 numbers together to figure out a punch factor. Example 1.3 gpm @ 3000 psi has less punch than 2 gpm @ 2500 psi. More gpm the better the result. I used to be a certified Hotsy technician.

This would be a good unit. Most of the cheap China pumps are rated for around 250 hours of service time.

And that one looks like it has a cat pump on it.

Can i expect to get much for $300-400? Again not trying to take paint off a car, just crud and dirt off exterior surfaces.

Probably could pick us a cheap karcher electric for around that, won't have much for hose but they will do the basic for you

I believe this is what I have at work. It cleans vehicles at school more than once a week and the Ag Class uses it to clean equip and their shop space fairly often also. We originally bought it to clean bird crap from concrete and it ran the normal tips, including turbo nozzles and I’ve also ran a twin nozzle concrete cleaner (the disc looking deal).
