Have you been running the saw? My advice would be to run your saw for a while before sending it off to be ported. Doing so will allow you to assess the performance of the saw in its' stock form and compare that to your needs/wants. Which will give you something to speak to the person doing the work, about how they will modify the saw to better meet your needs. Things such as "in large hardwood, with a 24 inch bar buried the saw does not deliver enough power to pull the chain and bogs easilly". There are lots of parameters in the porting process that can be slightly adjusted so that the saw better meets your personal needs. However you need to be able to tell the builder I need more 'X', so they can build you a saw you will be happy with.
OK so off track a bit again. I just learned that the post between @Mike From Maine and @SquareFile was a joke from a Sawhogz thread. My bad on that, lets continue the fun, and back to porting!
I think TL will still provide you a pre ported OEM C/P kit that you just bolt on. No matter who does your saw you will still have to re tune it for your location/elevation.
Im currently using a borrowed walkerized 372 with a 28in bar. I cut mostly hard wood. I havent fired this saw yet i dont want to be disappointed. I put this up with hopes of finding someone here vs canada. It seems to be working well. Thanks keep options coming
Yes, I did. Mine was an early one done on a Meteor C/P IIRC. Terry now uses only OEM C/P kits. That would be preferred by most. Hardwood, are you in the US or Canada?
There's lots more builders out there that don't even advertise or are active on many forums. I will recommend you stay away from D and D if you want your money's worth.
Randy is mastermind on here. The others aren't on here. I'll get you Dan's email and Mitch's. Brad is blsnelling on the other forums.
Mitch Weber = mweba (on AS, SH, and YouTube) Scott Kunz = treemonkey (AS and SH) Brad Snelling = blsnelling (member here, AS, and SH) Randy Evans = MasterMind (good God, he's everywhere! Including right here at FHC) Danny Henry = dozerdan (AS and I think SH as well)
I was checking out the reviews of the 261 as there's one for sale in the Classifieds section. Wouldn't you know...a forum member review on the Stihl website. NewToStihl's MS261 he listed in the Classifieds is not an M-Tronic. There have been 2 versions of the MS261. His is still a "new" saw but it is the OE.
I stay 6 to 8 weeks out on work as an average during saw season. during summer when mowers are in use it can be 12 weeks or better. I try not to even take saw work in the summer but can sometimes be talked into letting one sit and wait.
We should definitely get together! ! I wanna pull the trigger on that Minty 064!! It will def make me want one!!
