I may be weird but I actually like to clear snow.....and mow my lawn. I'm not quite 70 yet so that may change in 10 years or so. I'm with Jay. I have a special place in my heart for the White Mountain area. If I won the lottery I would look for a large chunk of land and fence it all off and build a compound for my family and a few select friends.

All that said, my daughter is looking for a place in Florida to winter at. I went with her to look at a place in St. James City at the Southern end of Pine Island. She a boater and a fisherman so she's looking for a place on the water. I have to say, I loved the area. Only one way on or off the island by land. Reminded me of Key West 30 years ago before it got too weird. I could see myself visiting her a few times

I may complain about snow moving but I do like that I get exercise and fresh air. And frankly, I like that I can do it myself and can enjoy a bit of time where I'm pretty much zoned out. If I could just schedule those days or amounts (say 4" every 2-3 days instead of 12-28" at a wack), and the temps stayed in the teens or higher (none of that -18* crap) it would be perfect.

Almost 90 deg yesetrday and again today. If the Ac were in I would have them on just a bit and windows closed to keep it nice and dry inside. But managing with open windows overnight.

Downside-pollen is thru the roof with the sudden warmth. I have mild allergies that are at the worst in spring so overnight with a fan blowing in they went into hyperdrive. Or I have a cold-I'm going with allergies

No carrying ac units for me right now and no mini split here....yet.

If I do mini split I want them installed before surgery. Mistubishi compressors are out of stock until med-late June. They did get in a 36k unit I could have had but it's bigger than orig and almost 2K more money.

I can get a Samsung system that are readily available and a bit cheaper than Mitsu. Cant find a lot of info on Samsung though.

Neighbor had an HVAC crew (not the company I will be using) in yesterday to service their AC units. Talked with the tech who said all the mini split brands are fine if installed correctly. Tech said that he has a Fujitsu and his son has a Samsung system with no issues so that makes me feel better about Samsung. 10 year parts and compressor warranty from Samsung and 5 year labor warranty from the installing co so..........

I will stay away from Frigidaire ductless-neighbor had them installed 5 years ago and nothing but problems over last 2. They are AC only units, no heat. The installing co (NOT the co that was there yesetrday) said they all need to be replaced-on the customer dime

Also, the installing co put in 4 outside units for 4 indoor head units :loco:

Even the service tech last night was surprised at 4 units and said that wasn't necessary.

I used to think that, but while rare, they do strike around here. Then they argue if they were indeed tornados or wind sheer. Either way, they knock over the trees and bust up a lot of things. There is a hemlock in the back yard that was hit with some wind. Half way up the tree, it just twisted right off, lifted up and then fell back to the ground about 30 ft away. What that was, I don't know. I also had a huge maple that just twisted off leaving a tall pointed stick like a t toothpick. That tree didn't travel as far. Compared to what I have seen on TV, this isn't much at all. One thing I have learned is not to have heavy trees near your home.

Take a look at this, it is what I have. 4 grand, start to stop including submitting paper work for rebate.
My unit takes care of our entire living space except during the coldest weather when I prefer to use the pellet stove. I swear it takes less power to run the mini split than it does to run just the electricity for the pellet stove. We are only dealing with one floor, open concept. Most my friends have a comparable set up. My brother in law has two units. He likes a cool bedroom. Everyone's prejudices are different.

I'm looking at 1 15K to handle downstairs and 2 6K upstairs in the bedrooms. Prices have gone way up since Covid.

2 est from different companies are $15K and $17K for non Hyper Heat units so no rebates. Hyper Heat are a lot more $$

There are a couple of reasons they might have done that (although since they are AC only, it seems unlikely):

It depends on how far from the outdoor unit a head is - it might be better (efficiency wise) to have a separate outdoor unit. Since my basement is unfinished, I had my office lines run thru the basement instead of having the lines run around the perimeter of the house (would have been about 40').

The other little secret they may not tell you is you can't run your heads in separate modes unless you have a separate outdoor unit. So if you want true autonomy between sections of the house, that is the way to go. So, say you have basement living quarters: The basement stays cooler longer and you may want to use heat while the upper level is hot and want to use AC. If you don't have separate condensers, then whichever head you turned on first is the "master" and the other will do the same thing (but you can pick the temperature).

Weather has been on and off....RAIN....Clear to partly cloudy and back again.
So far we have had over 57" of rain/precip since the water year began on October 1st 2021
    Been a soggy winter.
May has seen over 4" of rain so far.....and more is forecast....

We had the Stoves off last night from mid afternoon until 4am this morning when I got up.
Lit the little stove up as it was about 67F in the house......
More rain forecast over the next few days.....

This cooler than normal weather is using a lot more shells than we normally do this time of year....

    Third option- Covid :headbang:

Took almost 3 years but it has hit me.

Highly unlikely I haven't contracted it previously but without any symptoms so I likely got either a high load dose or current variant is affecting me when previous ones did not.

Feels like a bad cold is about it. If I hadnt had tests here already I would not have thought twice about it being a cold as they are going around right now.

Seems the vaccine is doing its job.

Hang in there G, hope you feel better soon. As it turns out, I'll be out in Concord next weekend, you're not too further from there - if you still need help getting an A/C window unit in, msg. me this week, I'll see what I can do to help out.

I've had it possibly twice. First time was late Jan 2020. Where I was working we were developing a product where the company we were working with had all the work done in mainland China. They brought a few people over from China right after Xmas and a few weeks later all of us who had interacted with them got what we thought was the flu for about a week. As covid became more prominent we all realized based on the symptoms we more than likely had had it.
And when grandson got it in Nov, I had all the same symptoms as he did just my home test said negative but they were not guaranteed to work with Omicron as they were older test kits.

My sense of smell has been off since the 2020 bout along with my energy level and all my pain areas (back, knees, hands) have been a lot more sore. Read an article about "long covid" the other day which noted a lot of people having ongoing higher inflammation after Covid as it left their immune systems in an attack type mode so that could explain it. The majority are people who were hospitalized for covid but has been noted in people who weren't.

Hope you get better soon. My daughter, a nurse, has it. Like you, it is like a cold. Her husband had it a few months ago. She didn't catch it then. We have had two boosters. I have tested several times but always negative. Maine is a hot spot now. Hope it burns itself out soon.

    Thanks everyone.

So far so good. Temp is normal (really good sign from what I understand), some daytime cold medicine and some cough medicine a few hours later.

I did wake up feeling like crap but a cup of coffee and some water started to perk right up again. Took the one dose of daytime cold med and made it through the day working from home. Just a few short breaks from the screen.

Have some alka seltzer nightime cold that I didnt have last night (Zon) so hopefully wont wake up feeling like crap again.

Advil PM worked well for me when I had it in January. Doesn't work as well for my wife though.

Knee is feeling a bit better every day. Work will not let me back until I have a note from doc, doc won't write it till I see him Friday. Walking every day and doing my leg lifts, with a bit of pain though. Bored stiff, gotta start doing something around here.

    Doggy
