    Cottonwood!

The golf course next to my parents took down one of their large Cottonwood trees. It was an easy score with the dump trailer and the course's tractor loading it up. In the past, I've had good luck with Cottonwood. It had split and seasoned easily. This stuff looks a bit different than the stuff I had a few years ago.

Here's a picture from some Cottonwood from 2 years ago. The stuff I got this weekend looks a little different but the smell is familiar, not a good one. Hoping to get it bucked up asap as I've heard this stuff doesn't last long in log form.
Cottonwood are probably my favorite tree. They tower over everything in our creeks and river bottoms. They're the foundation for wildlife in my area and provide a lot the critters around here.

Looks like bugs of some sort got into that tree.

Probably led to some rot in it. I hope it's worth your effort.

Looks like it's in better shape than the ash I grabbed a block away for some reason.

I find it smells like manure when it's split and stacked but that smell goes away pretty quickly.
    Good for the shoulder season.

One thing about most cottonwood is there is a lot of wood in each tree. They can grow huge.
