Saw this tree in a parking area on a call today. It’s a young tree. Between 15-20 feet tall. It has not leafed out yet, but it is budding out.

The bark looks like Ash, but it has seed pods?

    Any ideas?

They grow fairly fast and get huge. They were harvested and used for railroad ties years ago, I don't know about now. Not much good for firewood however. I guess any wood will work if you boil it in creosote long enough.

The catalpa worm can wreck havoc on the tree, but it is prized for fish bait. (the worm, not the tree  ) The catalpa worm is the larva of the sphinx moth, which mimics hummingbirds in the way they feed off of flowers. A neighbor has a catalpa tree, and I'm sure that's where our sphinx moths come from.

Speaking of the sphinx moth, I ran across this one today on our porch. They're big moths.

Replying to my own comment, is like having a conversation with myself.. I've been known to talk to myself, but this is a first. :loco:

Stihl Kicking Having a conversation with yourself is OK. It is a bit of a worry when you have an argument with yourself and lose the argument:rofl: :rofl:

Northern Catalpa. The bark looks different than the Southern Catalpa trees around here, but those are definitely Catalpa beans. Beautiful trees when in full bloom imo...
