Thanks! I'm getting my workout in that's for sure! So far no hydraulic splitter......but it was raining all day today and tomorrow too.....So it'll have to wait till Monday......
Bucked the 92" round just now. Man that 034 Super with a 20" is getting the job done. Good thing I have a cant hook. Made is easy oeasy to cut on one side and then roll the log over and finish the cut on the other side. Used one wedge to keep the kerf open. Smells absolutely amazing. Got 5 more logs to do.
I saw a few holes but nothing to suggest infestation. Look at this ginormous piece of bark that came off almost all in one shot!
Tree service dropping the hickory trunk that ended up in my driveway. In hindsight I was standing in a not so safe place. If they had miscalculated that trunk would have smacked those logs on the ground and I would have been in big trouble.
Speaking of hickory...I was splitting some shagbark this evening with my hydro and happened to look down and saw a bolt head lying in my trash pile under the splitter. Upon closer inspection two of the three side bolts on the splitter head had been sheared off. The hickory was super tough and wasn't splitting as much as it was tearing. Only hickory...
You can use it for compost I suppose although the thought of bar oil mixed into it isn't great. I gave some to a neighbor who has chickens and he uses it as bedding/floor covering. And you can dry it and use it as incense and also can mix it with melted old candles in egg cartons to make fire starters. You could also use it as kindling to start a fire but it won't last long. Might be good for fire pit usage where you can just burn it to get rid of it. I used wood chips from my tree service buddy as bedding around my raised garden area and it has worked out pretty well except I have a bunch of acorns growing into saplings in it!
