Easy Oak Score.

Not liking the eternity oak takes to dry and having limited storage i shy away from taking it. Drove by this last week literally right around the corner from me. Right on the curb. Too easy and primo straight to say no. Called town and not them. Told me to call regional utility company...and bingo. The top had broken off in a storm in 2020 so they took the rest down.
500i had a feast. New chain added the rotation. Park, put out safety cone and section right in the street behind the PU. Notched with saw to sledge and wedge as i didnt want to swing Isocore with a bum thumb. I sort of one armed it. First log sectioned and loaded.

Been a while since ive cut a big load of oak. Whats still there. Maybe next week ill cut the rest. Too heavy for my liking and my backs! Even sectioned up. Warmer day too and not used to it.

 

Sweet score, and nice job improvising to get it quartered too.

 

Quarters were too heavy. I could manage but my aging, aching back likes them smaller. Most were into sixths! Ive been making them smaller in recent times as I have to handle twice more (now once) before being split.

 

I hear you there, I mean I’m only about halfway to 80, but my back aches even when I don’t do much. And once you get ‘em halved it is generally easy going to split to desired size after that.

Nice job, buZZsaw BRAD . How do you like that cant hook? I was picking up some red oak the other day, and I had to leave a lot behind bc it was too big (approx 30”+ diameter, 6-7’ pieces) for me to handle with just my ms250. Later that day, I saw someone mention the cant hook here on fhc, and thought that might’ve made the difference for me on that pickup.

 

That had to be a heavy load.

 

That’s a perfect oak firewood log. Splitting doesn’t get any easier than straight grained red oak. Is it split and stacked yet?

It was. I have had heavier oak loads and couldve fit the last three rounds, but opted not too. I was getting fatigued from the warmer day and still had to unload at storage.

 

Jiminy Cricket, that's an easy score! I too thought about how nice the boards wood be.

 

Love the cant. I had never seen or used one til a few years ago. That one was a Christmas gift. Dont use it a lot but very handy to have when needed. It also has a T bar i can attach for propping logs off the ground. I was surprised they rolled as easy as they did with the cant. HEAVY wood for sure.

If you are cutting bigger wood on a regular basis might i suggest a bigger saw for the arsenal?? When i got one a few years ago it was a game changer. Just be careful of CAD.
