Have a chance to buy a new Stihl 009L. Any idea what its worth if its never seen wood? I know they bring +/-$200 if halfway decent used. My research shows they were last manufactured in 1997 so at least a 25 year old saw.

I gave $125.00 for a good running 011 about 5 years ago if that helps.

I’ve used an 009 and would say anyone willing to pay 200 has never used an 009.
A friend bought a clean 011 for $125 last year.

What is it like to use? Awkward with the handle arrangement vs a standard top handle?

Id describe it as awkward and underperforming
It cuts and might have some fans, but I didn’t like using it.

Ive read more than once about guys putting 012 top ends in one turning it into a 45cc saw. 009 is 37cc, 009L is 40. Wish i knew someone who had one for me to try.

25 years old and never used deserves to be a shelf saw in my opinion.

X2...every rubber part of the saw may be dry rotted.
I know if I were buying something larger, like lets say an older RV, if I had a choice of 2 that were equal in apparent condition, other than one has 5k miles, and one had 50k miles...I'm going for the one with more miles on it...the other one will nickel and dime you to death forevermore just due to sitting...not quit the same as a saw, because you could replace every rubber part on a lil saw without breaking the bank, but it may not be "a good deal" anymore either...

I feel the same way about my 011. I won't even use it anymore. Its garage art.

Neat little saws but be warned that parts can be scarce. Notorious for bad oil pump diaphragms and trying to find a replacement one can be tough. I traded the one I had.

Hmmm... I like mine for limbing and bucking small stuff. Which reminds me, I should get it out and run it a bit.

What it probably is is that ported saws ruined me. I already had a ported 2511T when I got this saw and the lil Echo out cut it in everything but stuff to large for a 25cc saw to be cutting anyway.

I use the heck out of mine. It was barely used when I grabbed it at a garage sale. Cleaned the carb and put it to work. Often. Kinda old school tech but its been bulletproof reliable. It gets used in much larger wood than it should! Handy.

Is yours an 009 or an 009L moresnow?
