Can't NOT like the 460 Stihl !

This saw has been sitting here since early September 21.
I finally found it !! Praise God !!
I got this saw in 08. It was well used then. I've burned around 100 gallons of saw gas thru it since. Falling timber in Southeast Alaska . And the Interior.
It's been under 4 feet of snow pack .
I pulled it out. Brushed some of the snow off. Pulled it over some . Set the choke and pulled it 12 times. Let it set for a couple minutes . Then first pull it fired, 2nd pull it ran !! . Ran great, just like when I set it down last fall. Shut it down and did a bunch of shoveling. Packed it up to the firewood pile. Set the choke , it fired. Popped the choke off and it started on the 2nd pull. Bucked up some firewood and shut it down . I've had 1 046 and 4 460s . Still have 2 of the 460.
The 572 Husky is a higher performance saw. And much smoother on the hands. But I don't know that I could put anymore timber on the ground in a day with it than I can these 460s.
Nope, just can't Not like the 460 Stihl !!

 

Wow, no Stihl left behind! I’m a fan of the 460. It’s a rock solid dependable easy starting no nonsense machine.

It was right where I set it down. We don't get much traffic out here. People tend to mind their p's and Q's when they come thru.

 

Plus, it was under the snow not long after I set it down. Then it got up to 4' of snow on top of it.

 

I did the same thing with my stihl 390 once. We came in for a break and a storm blew in. Totally forgot about the saw because I normally bring it in with me. It sat outside for a few weeks if I remember right. I was mowing and saw it and was like "OH CRAP! I left it here!?" I ran over, picked it up, and it fired up on the 6th pull. It weathered several storms and didn't seem to care. The only thing exposed is the exhaust outlet, and any water that goes in can drain out the muffler seam.

i let it sit in the shed for over a year after splitting up 22 cord a couple years ago. I grabbed it this year and it started on the 10th pull. Frozen solid at -30 and baking at 100+. Great saw.

 

Gives new meaning to the term "cold start"! Great that you found it and didnt become part of a glacier.

Love my 460. My first "real" pro saw. Was going to sell it when i got a 462 earlier this year but opted to keep it. Havent fired it up in recent months and should so so soon.
