Process it ASAP. Turns to punk REAL FAST. Friend of mine cut some last May and i went to PU rounds in August and some had gone to punk already. I was amazed. Feather light when dry so shoulder season wood. Find a new place yet Steve?

I can’t speak to it’s drying or burning qualities but I trimmed up one for my mother and it’s been literally running water for 2 weeks. Running water as in a really badly leaking faucet to a small stream. We could here it “running” hitting the ground from about 100’ away.

Just split about 3 wheel barrels of it. Definitely has the look of lower BTU wood. I’ll keep an eye out for the faucet-like moisture. It did seem pretty wet and a bit stringy. If it wasn’t free and dumped in my driveway, I’d pass next time.

I would split it all including the small branches to avoid it rotting on you.

The good news is it will be dry in no time! Good wood to start fires with too…

I have probably a cord of it in my stacks, it was decent to process. Probably start burning it early in the heating next season. (if this one ever ends. Just lit the stove again for the first time in over a week)
Cool looking wood but I’m guessing it will shed quite a bit in the basement.

I’m ok with it being shoulder season wood. This past heating season I had a lot of high BTU stuff but not much at all of the lighter stuff. I’m thinking that this birch will help with that this fall. It definitely looks like it will be dry by fall.
