I almost feel a little shy about posting this amongst everybodys big saws

The son of the older neighbor lady who I give firewood to came over today and gave me a chainsaw. He says he is going all battery electric for his home and yard maintenance equipment and wanted me to have this little beasty. Looks like it came off a charm bracelet and is cute as a bugs ear but fires right up and looks very fresh. I may give it to my niece but then again I may keep it to trim my toenails! I suppose it could be a nice light duty limbing saw but the 260 has that duty taken care of and a lot more. I did get a kick out of his statement that, "now that he has an electric car and all electric tools, he is independent of fossil fuels"! Of course he had just gotten a half cord of firewood from me that was hauled and processed with a gas truck, gas chainsaws and gas splitter. At least His hands are green. Be that as it may, it is a nice gift and totally unexpected!

 

Do you use tractor or such? Nice 4wheeler type saw

 

No tractors here unfortunately but that would be a good niche for it!

 

Your karma came full circle. Great saw for smalls or limbing which i know you dont do much of. I had a 170 and now a couple small rear handles that have their place in the arsenal.

 

I have a 170 and for a small saw it has it's place.
Yeah small and underpowered but for light limbing and cleanup it works. Also handy for trimming slabs at the sawmill.

 

Green or gas issues aside, what a nice gesture. This is the kind of thing this world needs more of. My old co-worker at the bike shop did the same thing and gave me his old 011. He is very happy over a year after and has no regrets. I too didn’t have a use for that saw and moved it along to someone who would.

 

Joe is a "Good Egg" and an all around nice guy. I will at least try it out for a while on wind blow down in the yard and see how it feels. The tool-less bar tensioner and screw down would be nice for a "dash out and buzz up a couple limbs that came down in the storm" scenario. If I decide to let it go it will be for free to someone close to us that I know will use it!

Don't worry. I have two of those saws. My brother-in-law gave me his because it was too big. I said thank you and put it in the back in of my truck next to the 036 and 066.

Perfect size for young ones to learn with. Once while I was on the road for work my wife decided to cut some shrubs down. She grabbed the 044 and tried starting it once. The oldest boy goes, "You should use the small saw before you kill yourself." The 180 was a much better size for her, the boy, and the job.

If nothing else, you have a saw to barter with.

 

I bought a 180 in September when I had a big cedar to clean up. It goes wood cutting with me most of the time now and actually gets used on half of those trips. It's great for limbing and small stuff.
I used it last week for a big maple that fell out back. I ran almost a tank through it cutting branchy stuff down small enough to go on the burn pile.

 

I don't think I've ever seen a 180 that wasn't a top handle in person.

 

A lot of positive reviews here for a small saw! I will definitely use it and put it through it's paces before I make any final decision to keep it or not. Thanks for everyone's input!

Huh? First I’ve ever heard of a ms180 top handle

 

I have the, I believe, older 018C and its invaluable. Great for limbing, blocked trails and light cutting up to say 24”. I have a 16” bar on mine and it is really a decent hard running saw. It will find a niche’ in your arsenal. Nice gesture from your neighbor too.
It has decent torque for it’s size, running the micro 3/8 picco, it’s a ripper! Mine has the tool-less tensioner too and I like it on a small saw. Congrats!

 

Cute little saw. Nice gesture too. I don't have much use for a little saw, but they do come in handy once in a while when you don't need a bigger one.

 

Bought a 180 a year and a half ago, I love it for limping and cutting small stuff.

 

Are you happy with it so far? Still have not had a chance to use this one.
