We started this job yesterday. Homeowner said he likes grass more than leaves...lol... Only saving the small dogwoods. This is Phase 1 The front yard, mostly oak, some sweet gum and tall pines This was a spring loaded red oak Another small red oak goes down As we were walking around the trailer, got a surprise at the amount of sap that had run out of the logs while we were loading 1st load done, heading to the woodyard Started on the 2nd load, then had a small limb go inside the rim, broke the valve stem off. Got to fix that this morning.
It's a shame to see such a nice stand of straight trees come down, but hey, you're the right man for the job
Nice place to work by the looks of it. How many trees are you taking down? What has to be done with the brush?
Congrats on the job Jeff. Whats the biggest tree to come down? How many loads you think? I hate equipment breakdowns as they always happen at the worst time!
Awesome that you can get the wood. And looks like a nice place to work...flat, plenty of room to drop trees and work etc. Crazy to me that someone would rather have grass to mow than woods (and especially park-like woods like those) that are pretty much hands off for maintenance (assuming enough defendable space and fuels from a fire standpoint).....
I gotta say, I wouldn't take all those out if it were mine either, but if you're getting paid to do it then whack em & stack em! That'll make some excellent firewood!
I'll have to check, got one for tomorrow that I'm taking the 32" bar for. Only had the 25" on the MS461 today. I could do it with that, but will be easier with long bar. Got tire fixed...after working Monday night, I probably needed to stop Tues afternoon
No sir, had to break 1 side loose. It seals against the inside. Didn't take long to break it down and install valve. The problem was getting that fat tire to seal again. Ratchet strap in the middle, air cannon, bumping down on the rim...nothing worked... Finally, the country boy(redneck) came out with a can of ether...a small shot, lighter and pop, it sealed... We had it back on the tractor by noon...
We made some progress today, after spending the morning getting tire fixed and put back on. Started about 12:30... We used the MS180, Husky55 and MS461 Had a little surprise when I notched this sweet gum... It was a fairly tall tree and a breeze came up...got it on the ground safely There is a cross tie mill in town, a few miles from where we are working. They will take the sweet gum, over 10"dia and 10' long...will be more 2nd load home. Mostly oak, some small sweet gum... We have probably another half load we cut this afternoon. Headed back tomorrow...
