New Homepage Design-- Input Wanted

Well guys, here is what I've been working on. I still need to write up some sort of script for our galleries, but let me know what you think about the rest of it. Images in the slide show are likely to change.

I like the slideshow idea.
How is that on the bandwidth?

 

Shouldn't be too bad, I shrunk down the pictures.

 

I should have done that on my stack pic so you didn't have to.
I didn't know my 15 minutes of fame were gonna' be here.

 

I had to shrink them all to be the same size or the whole page would shift with each upload.

 

Ah, that makes sense.
Anyway, still a great idea.

That Stihl with the sun glare and the woodpile is awesome! I've seen it before, looks great.

I'm not so artsy, maybe some kind of color rather than the white backdrop? You could offset your text with frames so it pops more? Would it be possible to put your bullets (like where you mention Smokehouse/ Gear/ etc) around the slides? It would fill in the empty space and make them more likely to click.

I've been avoiding frames, for the most part, due to having to design this to work on various screen sizes. I wanted to stick with the basic white backdrop so this will look good with all of our themse as well.

 

I like it. Very inviting

 

Picked up a slight typo on caners. Looking good though!

It should be two n's shouldn't it Gary? I typed it that way, and spell check said just one.

 

The layout looks good, but I don't prefer the white backdrop for a homepage.
A green light color is my favorite. Or maybe something like a faded stationary that looks like the flat side of a wood plank. Example below, but shade can vary. Should fade it out some to have better contrast with the data/pic's
If you keep the white, how about a border for highlight.

 

Spell check should be banned.
Way too many errors and causing the dumbing down of America.
Canning. You were right, spell check is wrong.
Caning would be if you were being punished by being beat with a cane.

 

Good to define that. I have questioned it. Went to college, but that didn't make me spell right. Spell ck. often removes the word I thought I had typed and replaces it with something else. My wife usually is sitting in the chair next to mine so she becomes my dictionary most of the time. She studied to be a school teacher.

Just not sure if I want to do a background with this. The point of encapsulating it in the site was to make it resemble the site.
