As the title suggests. I have an F 150 that seems to be missing a relay? Everything works? But it has the prongs for a relay (the other empty slots have no copper prongs) ?? It's the empty slot on the bottom left of pic (very bottom row)? The far left there is two red "10" fuses. Just to the right of those two red fuses on the bottom?? That's the empty slot?? It's at my mechanics shop now and he asked if I had the book for the relay info? I seemed to hVe lost it and he doesn't have one. I should find a Ford Forum, but I know there are numerous talented and well trained mechanics here. I just wonder if it ever had anything there?? Pics of truck and box. '

Trailer tow battery charge relay... I dont know if it had it? Didn't have it?? Brake lights for my trailers work? At least I know now. Thanks Papa Dave
12 volts hot at the trailer plug is different from what is needed for lights and signals. My truck needed to have a couple fuses added for trailer brakes. If your truck had the heavy duty tow package it might have come with the relay. Nice looking truck. This attachment is useful when trying to troubleshoot light issues, trailer brakes or aux. power
If your not sure what options your truck came with, just take your VIN to a ford dealer and they can print off a build sheet for your truck. It will list any trailering package.
It came with the Trailer tow package and I regularly pull a trailer. So the lights, sigmals, etc all work and still work? So maybe I am just putting to much thought into something that I have never noticed in 12 yrs and just noticed now?
Beautiful truck, Dex. Looks great for a ten year old Ford. In NY, the rockers and wheel wells would've been rotted to chit! How do y'all keep such nice trucks. You must have salt on the roads in winter, no?
Little late to the party, but when you get Ford's towing packing, it comes pre-wired for a 4-pin and 7-pin connector. They usually (at least they did for my '09) include a wiring harness for the TBC and a relay for the TBC and trailer battery charger in a little bag in the glove box. The basic trailer functions (turn, tails, and stop lamps) are read to roll with no intervention.
Bingo!!! Yep. I have a 4 and a 7 pin. Both work. So its for the trailer brake controller That makes sense.
Nice truck Dex! I had a 00' f150 before I got my 250. Mine started rusting as well. Hard to keep a good truck like that clean when you live around here. Especially if you actually use it. Lol
Actually it sounds like it's for 12v power to recharge the breakaway battery on the trailer. Unless you have a trailer equipped with electric brakes, it's a non-issue. The function is most likely to provide a disconnect if the key is off in the truck. Otherwise the draw from the trailer could run down the truck battery. My enclosed trailer will do that if I leave it plugged in for several days without running the truck. No relay in the circuit on mine but I might change that.
Truck looks to be in great shape. I have an '03 that I bought new in September of '03. Just passed 50k miles last month.
Mine has over 140K now. But 120k was put on in the 1st 3-4 yrs. The last 7-8 have been for hauling wood and ATV's Its currently in the shop for new plugs, coil packs, shocks, injector seals, fuel filter, brakes, lower left control arm, ball joints, etc (by etc, I mean a Lot of other stuff).. Any pic of your 03?
No, but I'll see if I can take some this weekend. It's in fantastic shape and has held up really well. Incredibly low maintenance costs. At the rate that I am putting on miles, I could have it for another 10 years. Never would have figured that would have been the case back when 28 year old me bought it.
