Made a wagon out of it. I see no sense in a push through splitter being towed from the front only. Put a set of tilting castors on front. Redid the tow bar to raise and lower but not go side to side so I should be able to steer it with the atv. Wheel system will pop right off and a stiff bar reinstalled if I want to tow it on the road. I’ve become quite used to pushing a splitter in front of the atv. scrounged parts of course phase two is the box wedge. Somewhere along the line I’ll make a chute and another wagon style bar in the back to pull it from that end. oh, and I’ve already been told the red is absolutely atrocious LOL. What can I say there was a supply shortage that day. The one last single can of red at Ace Hardware. I also really dont care I just don’t.
That looks good! I used my splitter once and buried the hitch end in splitter trash. Garden tractor wouldn't pull it out, put a tongue on the other end immediately. Stupid design imo.
It’s not a smart design but there is one plus. On these splitters you get a slightly longer body. Allows a person to split from the loG lift side easier. Many other brands the lift is right near the tire. Operator is supposed to be on the other side. That works great if you have two people. I’m a one man show and it makes no sense to run around the splitter every time. This way I can move it around easily. But the back bar will be used mostly for pulling it straight back out of the trash and wood. Or should I say, that’s how I hope it works
Thanks. I had it out for a quick spin around the field. Works great. Back in the welding tent for more modifications. Welcome to the forum Old Feller.
Broke the stand up on my splitter last weekend. Was searching for modification or different set ups. Hope you don't mind but I'll be using your design. Its either toted around with the 3pt hitch or pushed around so this design should work good and be more stable.
Go for it. works well. Only thing I’ve learned is the tires must be well inflated. Too soft and they flex to easily as hey spin and can dig in instead of turning. One of the reasons zero turns use smootH slicks I imagine. Keep the stance wide for that reason also. I’ve since added the rear tow/push bar. Wasn’t sure how well that would steer but it works just fine. Push it everywhere. Designed to float up and down but not side to side.
Should make life a lot easier… Definitely much easier to push around… and the best thing only cost me about $30 for 4 washers, but utilized 2…. And the two caster wheels…
