No, i didnt score lemon wood! Wanted to hit an old BL score nearly half hour away. Had a job to look at close by so i try to plan my cutting accordingly. Contacted guy and he now wants the wood as he bought a wood stove. Had the okay in December, but not time. Dang...good load of primo BL left there. I had left some limb wood by the road last time and he said i could take that plus this log near the road. I did get some nice wood from there before...2.5 PU fulls. This was the thread The MANIA Continues! Bummed out, but not to be discouraged i knew of more wood nearby (always one on my radar). Level roadside, safe parking, light traffic and shagbark hickory to boot. Enough to fill the truck. Left a couple logs down a steep bank as i had had enough trying to wrestle what i did out of there. X27 sectioned them up rather easily. Tree was taken down last Summer among many others along the same road. Some of the bark was loose, but meat was solid. 261 handled the cutting, but wish i had taken a bigger saw. 75% shag. 25% BL for the load.
On my travels about 45 minutes north north-west of my shop yesterday, I witnessed unreal amounts of roadside wood. Wish I could have taken pics, your jaw would . Round these parts you'd risk physical harm to cut without knowing someone who gave the ok. I had to take a client home and seeing all that wood I told him it was like dangling a full crack pipe in front of an addict.
There was a lot of wood on the same road where the hickory was cut last year, (cutting back from wires) but it was NOT in a safe area to park and work. I did line up a hickory score just up the street at the time (park off road and cut) but when i called the next day to go there the guy rescinded! I think i talked up the BL too much at the other score. Some had been hastily cut and typical "newbie" cutting from the tops only. Down an embankment too and a hastily cut trail was cut into the area. Gonna text him offering chain saw work, maybe a barter...cutting for some black locust?
I was thinking of getting a T shirt that reads "Will work for black locust" Maybe sell them in the swag shop with the FHC logo!
Its needs a lot more than that! A visit to the junkyard then the scrapyard. A lot of work had been done on that tailgate. Its my work station most of the time.
Sorry about that...the locust maniac in me talking at the time. I imagine "WILL WORK FOR WILLOW" would would be a popular seller! Secret Santa gift maybe???
