I want to put some wedges in my oak slabs but am not sure how to cut or buy them. I do not have a table saw only a compound dewalt chop saw. Has anyone cut these with a chop saw? My slabs are white oak and I would like something dark to stand out. What type of wood would you guys recommend?
Could be done on a chop saw. My first impression is dangerous. If you use clamps instead of thumbs it’s a lot less dangerous Black Walnut would contrast nicely.
The butterfly wedges can be cut by hand but I would practice on some scrap wood first . The best way is to use a router with a template bit ( may not be called that in the woodworking catalog ) .Cut out a template of the butterfly wedge , then install a guide bushing and trace. I do have one of those sets somewhere that I havnt used in awhile
Black walnut sounds good. I think I will try my chop saw on some cheaper wood and get it perfected before I try the walnut
It’s always about set up. Take your time, think it through. Also if you don’t have a zero or negative rake blade you should get one. Much safer and better cuts on a chop saw. Once you go negative you’ll never go back LOL
