Picked up 2 Weimaraner puppies a couple weeks back. They have been keeping me busy but they are super fun and very smart. Raising the dogs is cutting into summer planting season but that's ok.

2 boys. They are little monsters. They can eat 12 cups of food in a day- each! At 22 pounds, they eat more than I do.
I picked up some roller blades and have taken them out a few times on the path. That is going to be a new summer hobby.

Wow! That's a lot of food. Our 80lb Dobey eats 5 cups a day. 2 morning, 1 @ lunch and 2 in the evening. They'll drain the wallet!
    This is a great pic!

When we got Roscoe, the previous owner had an auto ship food setup. They let it run out and bought him some other brand (can't even remember what it was) but they said he was shedding a little from it and his coat wasn't as shiny. So we stopped @ a pet store and my wife picked a bag of Merrick till we could get the original food. Turns out that happens to be mail order only, which is about $70 for 30lbs to our door. :makeitrain" He's eating about that every 2 weeks. The Merrick was about the same if I remember correctly.

He's doing very well on it but we may try an alternative some time. We learned the breeder gets a kick back when the puppy purchaser buys the dog as it's in the contract/agreement (for one year).

I read a book called big kibble that talks about dog food quality. It is pretty appalling what they put in dog food(...not sure about the one you are using...). They use chicken manure?! Everything is basically nuked to the point it has nothing left except protein or carbohydrate content. Very good book, bad industry practice. So this is the reason I have been cooking a lot of dog food. I am also paying attention to cost vs quality. So at ~$1 a pound for dry kibble which is about what I want to spend but that is still not the best quality food. The goal would be to cook better food for at or around $1 a pound. So bulk budget foods would be apples, carrots, beans, rice, potatoes, squash etc. Meat products at 2-2.50$ a pound could be mixed in with the other stuff to keep costs reasonable-- also meat parts like beef toung, heart, liver could be used. I would still use ground bone meal and kitchen scraps like broccoli stems too. The dogs already ate through 10 dozen eggs from my chickens. :/
I ordered a 12.5 qt (3 gallon) multi-cooker and some 1/2 size commercial style steam trays for food storage(one time fixed cost- $200 total for the cooker and trays). I am hoping I could cook 1 or 2 meals a week in the multi-cooker and that would get us on a good schedule. About 100lbs of food cost about $100 at the store last week, including a 12 lb turkey breast. This might prove to be a big headache but given the amount of food they are eating, I will see how this goes.

Yeah, you need to be mindful of what is in your dog food. That's one reason I like Fromm. I have no doubt that everything in their food is quality, because they are up front that it is quality. The other rain I like supporting them is because they make it right down the road a few miles from my house.

Regarding excercise with young pups, be careful. Their joints in their legs are not formed until at least a year.

    They are so cute!

Just because they will eat that much does not mean they should. If they grow too fast, they can stress their skeletal structure as well as tendons, which causes issues way too early in their lives.

Eh, you've probably discussed it all with your vet anyway - and he/she most likely has a degree from a school that is a bit better than my Google degree ;)

We had planned to go to English Harbour today, until a rain forecast emerged for that area. So instead we chose to go to Bay de Verde, only a little over an hour north of me, and try out a new walking trail up there.

20 minutes north of me and all of a sudden there's still snow on the ground. So much for the trail today. But was still a nice drive, snow or no snow.

Woke up this morning to ~1" of snow. Haven't seen that for a while. Some years March is our snowiest month, some years it isn't. This year March has looked more like spring so people are gonna start complaining.

    Good luck with that...
When our kids were that age, same problem. I finally got a small cup of water and drizzled a tiny bit on their neck or face......even rang their ear once......
After that, all they had to do was see the cup over their heads... :rofl:
