Took time this morning to sort the last 4 loads of logs we got. I missed a couple pics......need to talk to that photographer...... Here's the I did get... Pile of mixed cutoffs, mostly oak and hickory Found some more ash logs to add to the hoard I think it was about 6 hickory logs added to that pile. Ones without the yellow paint spots Really got the oak skids filled up this time... I'll get pics of the tulip poplar and elm today...
I had scrounge some ash trees during the harvest last fall and just got around to testing moisture levels. Right at 20.5%. Only took about 6 months to dry and that was during winter. Sure does season quick for a good quality wood.
Over a couple mornings, we got 9 more hickory logs bucked and split. 6 logs on the ramps Had a big pile of splits. Had to play mountain goat to climb over Got it stacked this weekend. Now habe 3 full rows in tbe shed, about 1.5 cords Got the divider wall finished last night. Now we can stack all the way out
After going on vacation first part of March, finally got back in the wood yard yesterday afternoon. Got 7 logs bucked and staged for the splitter. Got those rounds split this morning. Hope to get it stacked tomorrow
Do you intentionally debark them or depending on how long theyve sat prior to processing? In a perfect world id like to SS ASAP but as you know not always possible.
Most of these logs had been in the sun long enough for the bark to split and come off, had a few that I cut on each side with tip of saw, then knocked it off. Wish I had a debarker...
Nope, I'm not looking like I fell in a briar patch......he actually walks the pallet walls around. They jump onto the saw shed roof or a big stack of logs on the other side...
They do have sharp claws! Bet the critter population is not what it used to be? My cats used to go on the roof and climb ladders.
That must be a thing about cats. We have some strays that love walking on stacks, piles of logs, etc.
I think its a hunting thing. All the ones ive had in the past have loved being around the stacks. Lots of critters love our stacks and they are tasty if your a cat!
I'm definitely in favor of them hunting. Most living things that surprise you in stacks really aren't that great. Glad to have them removed!
