Ended up burning the brush pile today. Tapped some more trees for a little more sap, and got some firewood stacked. Beautiful weather out. Still about an inch of ice under my piles I dumped this winter!
I guess we’ll find out. We finished with our syrup middle of last week, and it’s super tasty. My wife wanted a little more to try making some maple candies. I guess we’ll know by the kids faces when they eat them
Nice stacks Halfacut. If my stacks were as long as that the first half would have fallen down before I get to the end. I am lacking in the stacking skills department. Guess I just need more practice.
Yes, that is about normal. Realize you live much further north. We don't even have any snow left and Haftacut is further south than I am. He is not a long distance south of us but there is usually a big difference in weather and temperature. I've seen syrup made from central to northern LP to UP and the timing is different for each of these.
Yummy! Wife and I boiled down the sap I collected yesterday and made some candy tonight, and wow! Just let it sit in your cheek and dissolveGot these cool little molds. May have to hide this stuff from the kiddos
That would be awesome! I’m sneaking them as it is though. All the work that goes into them, I’m afraid when I reach in now for one and my wife sees, I’m likely to pull back a nub
I remember those when i was a kid and we went to Vermont of New Hampshire and get them. Didnt realize it was just heated syrup. Seems easy enough to make.
I too was shocked that it was just syrup! Just heat it longer and hotter than syrup and simply stir for 5 minutes or to consistency and fill molds. I’d have never guessed
Ms. buZZsaw HATES anything maple flavored. So much so i accidently bought maplewood smoked bacon and she smelled it as i was cooking it. I goofed and thought it was applewood which i normally get. There's a baggie of it cooked in the fridge and i get it all...what ashamed! If i made those candies and the house smelled like maple she might pass out from the smell. The local private school used to tap all the sugar maples on campus and id buy a bottle of the syrup and drink it straight up. Bought a jar of maple almond butter recently. I eat that straight up too...time for dessert!
Pretty cool being able to tap your trees, and make your own maple syrup. What's in those candies besides maple syrup? They look pretty greenish, at least on my phone. First thought was they look like they could have some uh...medicinal herbs...added.....
I asked him the same the other day and its just boiled sap that crystalizes. I did look it up too and was surprised. I imagine one could add whatever one wants to them!
