Seldom do i browse for free wood on CL & FBM, but after the "easy" BL score from Wednesday sourced from there i looked Thursday night. Found one 15 minutes from me and texted (not often do they have their phone number IME). Guy calls back and got the okay. Hit it yesterday afternoon. He had hoarded some wood with the intent of burning it in the stove they never got and are moving. Easy access from back gate. Love how its so easy to recognize by the bark. Sitting for about a year and the bark was nice and loose. IMG_0714.JPG IMG_0712.JPG Younger guy was an ecologist so knew about BL. Had a real nice conversation with him. He moved the chicken fence so i could access the big logs and had a wheelbarrow which was a huge help. Chickens were getting treats as i kept giving them bark with creepy crawlies under it. IMG_0713.JPG
Tree service wood so shorts and cookies after i cut my 16" IMG_0716.JPG Every present nail or two. IMG_0715.JPG
Nice heaping load. Few more BIG BL logs plus the sugar maple and other wood. Need bigger saw. He wanted it all gone, but understood some of it was not good wood, which i talked up. I really dont want it all. IMG_0718.JPG IMG_0720.JPG
One thing i was amazed by was how fast this tree grew. A 16" round was about 25 years old. Some of the growth rings were an inch apart. It was from an urban area so lots of sun. Ill get another load next week.

Nice score, take as much as you can!
I've probably asked before but what tools do you keep in the toolbox? Trying to decide what size I want and what to keep in there

Tools? I dont usually carry a saw with me unless i know im cutting. I have the Isocore, X27 and pickeroon with me all the time. The tongs and "cleaver" are behind the seat. The black box tool box for the saws goes when a saw does. The log roller peavey goes most of the time unless i forget it.
If i know i need the wheelbarrow ill take it but PITA for a single trip as i have to load it back on and tie down. Did i answer your question?

Considering what i normally go through for it...fighting vines, prickers, brush, uneven terrain and carrying it sometimes many yards to load. Got spoiled!

Youre too young to forget!

I use a couple reclaimed one liter bottles for mix and oil. I usually top off the saws before going out and not often i go though multiple tanks of fuel in a cutting session.

I enjoyed them immensely. Very entertaining to watch. Many times i stopped and fed them the grubs. They were the tamest ive ever been around. I actually picked one up easily. Id like to get a few, but the other half said if i get chickens she gets a dog so we have just the cat for now.

With yesterdays haul processed today id say i got about 60% of a cord including nuggets/cutoffs etc. The next load ill neatly stack in the bed so about the same. Dont know if they'll be a third load. Few more big chunks of BL , big sugar maple and some red maple yet.
    Stay tuned.

Rather than bring the load to storage i hand split it here just like "old times". Bucked the skinnies and noodled a few gnarly logs. IMG_0721.JPG IMG_0722.JPG Friend of mine needs 2/3 cord of BL for next year so it went to the empty bay in his shed. IMG_0723.JPG The remainder from this score will come here too and more from elsewhere to top it off.
