Last June I bought a used 2015 Ford F250, 32,800 miles, in great shape, with a sun roof. However over the weekend I noticed a leak from the driver side grab bar. Some research shows it to be a fairly common problem with Fords and sun roofs, and sun roofs in general. On mine, it appears to be one of 2 things, clogged drain lines, or the seal around the window has deteriorated. I poured water down each drain line, and they are draining good. The seal seems to be in fair condition, but could be worse than appears. Or one other possibility, I left my truck outside during the last storm, it rained, froze and snowed about 4 inches. I guess it's possible, when it rained and froze, it could have clogged the drain and overflowed. Has anyone else had this problem?
i periodically have a similar failure mode on jeep GC. 2007. Over time it looses its close limit settings. Requires a recalibration. I forget the sequence but it’s something like push to open the sunroof to full vent and hold that button for 4 seconds. Then cycle the window open and closed 7 times. Each time I do it I open it first, clean all the mating surfaces, rails and drain paths. You may find something similar on line. The solution for me is a recalibration
I lived on a steep dirt road with washboard when I owned an Isuzu Trooper with a sunroof. I had to take it in a couple times to get it adjusted/realigned, I assumed the washboard vibrated out of alignment.
I do have marker lights. I noticed there's moisture inside the lenses. I may have to look into resealing them as well.
Since I've never dealt with these lights, I found a very good video that a guy put together on installing the factory lights, this really helped to understand where they could be leaking from. If the moisture is coming through the lens cover or screw, it's easy to deal with. However if they're leaking under the light fixture, that's a completely different ball game, with having to remove the headliner... ugh! I would hate to run silicone around the outside of the light base, but I would be really tempted to, in order to not deal with the headliner. How did you fix your leak?
I've been fortunate so far. Although I know it is not uncommon for the moon roofs to leak, I haven't had any leaks on either of my Explorers. The 2014 Explorer had 120k on on it, but I rarely used the moon roof - just never thought about it (hey, I didn't even know it had that when I bought the vehicle in 2018). My new (to me) Explorer with 35k on it hasn't leaked either. Even with all the sleet/freezing rain we had this winter, no leaks. I probably already used the moonroof more in this vehicle, which I bought last August, than I ever did with the 2014. Hope you get the issue fixed without a huge hassle!
