If it is not 100% synthetic, I do not run it.

Same here. Never had a plug fouling problem with synthetic oil. Had my Poulin Pro 4000 for 25 years with the original plug and my oldest running saw now is twelve years old with the original plug and no starting or running problems.

Never have. I didn't start using synthetic until about twenty years ago or so. Now I buy lucas semi synthetic by the four gallon case. It was around 120 bucks for the four gallons last fall.

Use the amsoil sabre if you like the smell of castor/ race oil. Then you get the great smell and the 100% synthetic.

When I'm out of sabre, I run the Stihl or other oil, and it doesn't smell great like the sabre.

Bean oil in ope is a sure fire way to gum it up and stick a ring. On the plus side is it will usually protect the cylinder enough to not sustain damage from said stuck ring. Ive seen it more than once. I've done it to see the results.

in the vintage Karting group they they swear by Blendzall and they are Mac 90cc saw engines or the engine that they made for the go Karts back in the day
is there a difference between racing a Kart and cutting logs i see very little carbon build up in the Macs or west bent engines P1020227.JPG

I have because the smell transported me back to my youth. Sure did make a mess! Now it's just an occasional thing.

There you go. I don't have the pictures of mine anymore. I ran an 800 watt 2 stroke generator for one full gallon of 50:1 Klotz Benol mix. Under a 600 watt load. Took a few hours and the ring was completely glued in and it was the nastiest mess id seen in a 2 stroke.

Tons of answers and opinions out there.
No matter what you pick keep in mind that oil technology has come a long way over the years.
Saws used to run at 16:1 , now 50:1. 8oz of oil down to whatever it is 2.6 oz per gallon. Some oils even go to 100:1.

Pick your poison and go with it.
Some like Budweiser and some Schlitz , maybe it is chocolate ice cream and vanilla for others , perhaps a Ford or Chevy?
    To each their own.

I would not use castor oil in OPE, it gums things up fast. Use a good synthetic. The only oils I flat out won't run are castor, and Lucas two cycle oil. If you absolutely must run a castor, Maxima 927 is the cleanest burning.

Castor does smell good in small quantities, but it will make you sick if you breathe in too much.

Seems about any mineral or synthetic ope oil is fine at 40-50:1, no castor oils and no Lucas 2-cycle. First one is dirty and gummy the second one makes the insides look dry like they aren’t getting hardly any oil at all. Every other one seems to leave a decent amount of oil in the bottom end at 42:1. I use 42:1 because it’s easy to mix a 2.5 gallon mix bottle with 2 gallons of gas.
