muff mod on 441c

Hey guys i got to lookin at the muff on the 441..was wondering how much better the exhaust could flow with those 2 plugs were removed?..i know the exhaust port hole on the top right is pretty big..but was just wondering..i thought maybe takin those little 8mm nuts off the front and it would pop off but it looks like the metal is flanged around...so has anybody done it..and is an easy mod?

 

Those two plugs are where the muffler bolts to the cylinder.

The two pieces are crimped together

Open the existing hole at the deflector or weld on another deflector somewhere else.

 

Will it make that big of difference by opening the existing one or making another one?

This is what I did, not the prom queen but effective

 

Did you remove the whole muff to drill, or did u drill baby drill...

 

Pull the muffler off the saw. Then I opened up the existing outlet and added the 3 new ones. The only bits I had on hand that could cut that metal were stepped bits, so I could only get the original marginally (if at all??) larger. Can't remember, saw is in a box heading out to AL today for a new life.

 

What is the correct procedure for muff removal on 441c?

 

Remove the two plugs.
Remove the two T27 torx bolts
Remove the two nuts on bottom

Wala its off

 

Forgive me..lol..how do the plugs come out?

 

I drilled mine. I wasn't concerned about reinstalling

 

If you drill the plugs out wouldnt that be a clean
Mod in itself?..those two xtra holes?..just tryn to pick yur brain.. that was my original thought just get rid of the plugs..

 

No those are tubes in there. Travel path for bolts. The tubes are brazed separating from the inside.

Remove the muffler or else you will end up with metal shavings in their that will be sucked back up into the cylinder!!

Forget the 2 holes there not open to the muffler. There is cylidrical tubes welded in their that just serve as a path to go through to bolt the muffler down to the cylinder.

 

Gotcha..i thought those 2 holes were exhaust ports partially closed up...

 

Nope those are where your muffler bolts go through to mount to the cylinder. When you see an exhaust port on a cylinder you see the 2 bolt holes on either side of exhaust port on the bare cylinder...those "holes" in the muffler match up to those. The lower bolts you see just help to stabilize and keep vibration down and just bolt to the crank case. The middle 2 bolts are what seals the muffler and gasket to the cylinder.

 

The plugs just pull out, no driling required! Use a small flathead screwdriver, they will press back in as well.

Is your C a C-M? I hope so, otherwise I am talking bollocks.
