Happened to look in Craigslist a few days ago and a guy had posted "Free Wood" just minutes before. Turns out He had about 9 cords of Doug Fir rounds covered in his backyard that were cut last April. He wanted it gone but said he would call me as soon as the first two callers got what they wanted. He had so many callers that he canceled his ad an hour after speaking to me. I figured the other guys would get it all. Surprisingly he called and I went to check it out with my firewood buddy. The other two guys had taken about 4 cords of the smallest stuff and left the rest for us. A few rounds were skinny and a few were over 16" but who cares....free wood just down the street! The pictures are after we had taken out 2 large loads with my little crane working hard. I remembered my FHC responsibilities and got a couple pics. The pile runs all the way back to the fence under the blue tarp. I can drive into the backyard and back right up to the pile. He works from home so he said "don't even knock, just drive in and start loading." He wants the wood gone in two weeks so have a little wiggle room! 116wood1.jpg 116wood2.jpg

NICE! Almost too easy if there is such a thing.

You mean wiggle room in your yard for the wood?

Close to home, already cut, and has a jump start on drying? Deals like that don't come along often.

Nice size rounds. There will be a few splits in each of those.

Wiggle room for time mostly. Don't have to do the full court press til it's gone regardless of weather. I will have to be creative about storage though.:stacker:

I am already 3 cords beyond the three year plan so I can sell some or just have a surplus. The way energy prices have been going up probably be smart to just keep it!

I agree with your thought about putting it aside as surplus.
Maybe as a barter item as needed?

Judging by the number of people responding to free wood postings now, The competition for scrounges will only get worse as heating prices skyrocket. And wood gotten now close in may keep me from traveling farther in the future!

One load by myself today. I got ten rounds, Nine in the 4.5'x8.5' bed and the other split in half on top. Many of the rounds are 18-19 inches long so you have to snuggle a skinny between them. It always seems that tree service people are all over the map for length. It irritates me to have to cut cookies off to make 16" but the neighbor lady loves them for her small insert.

Now that is a score!!! I hope you are going to make some kindling out of that! Spruce is amazing for little skinny itty bitty kindling as well as longer 16" skinny ones. I love it! I have my own spruce/pine score to attend to now that the weather is getting nice!

Since we are almost totally dependent on tree service scores something like this is a BIG deal especially since we can take a little time without constant competition.
