buzz-saw & I made a run this morning for this cedar i found yesterday. Not sure of the species as its not the aromatic cedar im familiar with. It has a softer texture to it. First pic from yesterday Im a bad influence on him as we grabbed this Norway maple too and put it in the bed. Thanks buddy! This pumpkin was in the road of the score.. I got out, kissed it hoping it would turn into a Husqvarna saw. No such luck. Mill pile getting bigger and bigger.
Thanks for the fun. Always a good time with plenty of laughs. Pretty good pile for the mill , just need the weather to be on our side. Between the snow ,ice then soft ground after the melting we have another round of snow headed this way it has slowed things down. Doesn't sound like a big storm but enough to make a mess of things.
Good stuff. Yeah that definitely doesn't look like your run-of-the-mill eastern red cedar. You might be close enough to the ocean for it to be Atlantic white cedar. billb3 might have some insight here.
I really like this guy's channel. He covers a lot of ground from the Ohio Valley through New England, and all sorts of habitats from wetlands to mountainsides. A nice treasure trove of comprehensive tree ID videos.
Thanks Eric. Looking at the bark and color of the ends where it was cut I think you nailed it; It was within a few miles of the shoreline as well. Looking forward to slicing it up and see what's inside. Leave it to BRAD to find something different to slice up.
It was a yard tree, so dont know if planted there or not. It has a pale pink heartwood. The sapsuckers definitely like it.
