I have seen chaps come in many different layer options. I have a 9 layer stihl set of chaps. It is rather warm in the spring, summer and fall when I am usually cutting wood. How many layers do you believe is OK for wearing year round and provide adequate protection?
As many layers as I can afford to buy. My thought is the uncomfortability of a severed artery is greater than that of wearing full wrap chaps on a warm spring day.
I’ve seen a cut through on Stihl chaps, so it’s an easy assumption to say the strike would have chipped bone without chaps. Iirc the guy ended up with 8 stitches.
I bought/use Husqvarna technical wrap around style chaps. Haven’t made the layer count a priority. Husqvarna Technical Apron Wrap Chainsaw Chaps After checking, says 5 layers of whatever it is that Husky uses.
