The 380 is a great little sled. I’ve rode it plenty and can have just about as much fun on it as I do on the bigger sleds. Trails with a lot of corners is fun, lots of long straights not so much.
I have dirt bikes and a sxs for summer fun. Snowmobiling sure makes winter way more enjoyable. When people are wanting it to end I’m hoping for snow. Most years decent snow can be found 2-3 hours north, this year we’ve had to travel to the UP which is about 4 hours or so for me to hit the bridge. Did a day trip yesterday, left at 5:30am home at 11:30pm. Put on 160 miles with some off trail fun. Nothing like being the first to cut a trail through some thigh deep snow.
Most people in my life want to go south for the winter. I wouldn't mind going north. My favorite time of year is mid summer, but I also enjoy a good winter. I'd have a snowmobile if we got enough snow to make it worthwhile. Back in the day, my friends and I would tie off a car hood and drag it across the snow. I used to enjoy going on winter float trips on the Ozark spring fed streams, after a good snow fall, and the limestone bluffs all iced over, it's beautiful. I would enjoy what you're doing.
This will give you an idea, not cheap but if you only want to ride one weekend a year it makes a lot more sense than buying. Snowmobile Rentals in U.P. Michigan Fish & Hunt Shop Curtis, MI 1 (877) 586-9531
As you say, if you only ride a weekend a year, or a lifetime, it would make sense. BTW, it's great to see your pics, and enjoying the time with your family. That makes for great memories!
Only a couple years ago, rental sleds of that power range were $250 a weekend day. I see like everything else, prices have increased a bit.
Went up and rode Munising/Grand Marais Sunday-Tuesday to finish out the season with my son. Awesome end of season riding! There is plenty of winter still holding on!
