That is our 4th evaporator, it burns cherry pits for fuel since we are in the "Cherry capital of the world" Heading out Saturday and Sunday and will finish the lines we started putting in, and start (hopefully finish) tapping.
I am interested in starting to make some syrup! Very cool hobby you all have. I have some sugar maple that I’ve thought about cutting down if I was ever in need of the wood. I have 2 nice trees with barb wire fence running through them. Would you still tap them? Also have one with a burl, couple more that are hollow. Wondering if you would tap them.
I'd tap everything except the hollow trees. Never get much. Then when you do....it comes out darker looking like squirrel pee ! I love your woods ! Looks like a good place to get some peace and quiet.
Tap em! Try to find the 'good' wood on the hollow ones. Since you obviously do 'forums', mapletrader.com is a good one to get on to learn all you'd need to know (and they're good at spending your money too). You can stay as simple or get as 'high tech' as you want. If your just looking to make syrup for you, keep it simple and have fun.
Just watching the weather forecast for today , hopefully the sap will run this afternoon . Please take time today to say a prayer for the people of Ukraine
