Blue dot at base of this Oak tree is my wife - she's 5'10.

This is a black oak, it is west of Redding, California.

Me, 6'1. Wonder what one of those rounds would weigh?

This is very close to where the 230,000 acre Carr Fire started in 2018.
It burned some of the lower limbs on this tree.

Last week (Feb 10th) it was 83f. in Redding so we drove down just to enjoy the "tropical" weather and checked on how "my" tree was still doing.

I have an MS170. Will that work?
The center of your last picture almost looks like a bear climbing up in the middle.
    Amazing.

Oh! buzz-saw, I had never seen that bear. Now I do!

I'll bet honest bears have been up this tree for hundreds of years.

That is huge. Would be very interesting to know the age of that tree.

I don’t think a 36” is gonna be quite enough

That is one awesome tree. Thanks for showing the pics. You know it has to be very old. I think because of the weather and the ground water not being that deep you get a lot of older trees there.

Wonder what the total weight of the whole tree would be. Pretty awesome, even in pictures.

Lol, that's probably the best photochopping on FHC that I've seen.

    agreed
The shaft of sun light coming through and making it on the Adam’s apple sells it for me.
Although, I was seeing a baby hippo, not a bear.

But we are calling Scotty Overkill to do the honors. He will even bring his son to help.

Drove through that area in the early 2000's. Sure would have liked to see that oak! :handshake:

A lot of people came to California in the 1850's to "see the elephant," but hippos don't climb trees.
