Mother Nature is at it again here. Started out this morning as rain and 40 degrees and went downhill from there. Rain changed to freezing rain about 1pm and the temperature has been steadily dropping and it's extremely windy. About 2pm changed over to snow and been snowing ever since. Hard to tell how much there is because it's all going sideways anyway. Big storm and we are on the upper fringe side of it. I suspect Ohio and then PA and eastward will get the brunt of it. NWS says 8-10 here for us with heavier snow south of us which would be northern Ohio. Local radio station says roads are next to impossible to drive on with the ice under the snow, recommending everyone not to venture out. Looking at the NWS track, it's heading right towards New England. Our dog almost did an endo going down the ramp I built for him over the front steps. Sheet ice with snow on top. I'll have to go out and salt it. We buy special ice melter that don't hurt his pads. It's down to 18 here. Bet the wind chill is far below that right now.
We supposedly got 10 but hard to tell as it all went sideways and has a nice layer of ice underneath too. Lots of wrecks on the slab and on secondary roads. People just never learn how to drive in winter conditions. Good for the bump shops, bad for the insurance carriers. SUV drivers seem to be the majority of smash ups and ditchers. They seem to think that because they have 4 wheel drive they can go anywhere at any time but when it comes to stopping or evasive driving, are no better than a 2 wheel drive buggy with good tires. In fact probably worse because they don't drive for conditions. Got up to freshly plowed drives this morning. I'm to the point where I'd rather pay a plow person to do it rather than do it myself and with 4 drives to plow out it gets involved. No pint in burning diesel in the tractors anyway. They can stay asleep in the barn.
