Lots of white oak not far from home. Somebody picked through the best of it but still got two truckloads before dark.

Not sure what this massive tree is, looks like tulip poplar to me.

Didn't unload the ford. Went for the new York reload and drove the dodge back. 0215221847_Film2.jpg

Difficult to be sure from the picture but it looks like ash to me. Check it for opposite branching, if it is you've got one big ash!

Poplar here usually has more color in the center, greenish when fresh cut, that turns a brownish after drying some. That's pretty uniformly light colored....

I thought ash at first too, but the color of the pic is not great so the jury is deliberating IMO.

It could be a hybrid poplar. Doesn't look tulip poplar to me

I talked to the neighbor, this was cut down months ago. Even the oak sat around because it was not already cut up and next to the road. Nobody they knew wanted it.

Got another truck load of white oak. Was smarter today and brought the maul and x27 to quarter the rounds. 0216221820_Film2.jpg

Ash by the looks of the blonding and the holes in the bark.

Looks like Aspen/popple to me…. If it feels slimy under the bark and the bark tends to have a lot of fibers, likely Aspen.

I take back my ash I.D. Now that I blow up the photo I see there is no E.A.B. tracks under the bark. :emb:

The bark on the ground does to me. I had a pie in the sky thoughts of cutting the big tree up but its too wet and if it is aspen or poplar the juice is not worth the squeeze.

I dont blame you on that. If you were really in need of wood okay, but its a biggun and a lot of work. Better off working on the oak.

I just can’t help myself. Aspen/poplar final answer. I like to have some in the stacks for warmer times when burning good stuff feels wasteful.
