I appreciate the offer but the Isocore is probably to heavy for me. I can handle swinging less weight but do not handle the heavier mauls that good. Thanks again.
That is cool. The head lives on. Nice work there MG. I had intended to grind it so the edge and back were parallel and use as a wedge Fiskars wedge but many of my ideas never materialize. The handle does live on as my pickeroon Homemade pickaroon with a reclaimed Fiskars handle. I have the broken second one and may put the handle on a standard axe head. I prefer a shorter axe myself. I choke up on the X27 all the time and have recently (and finally) purchased another X25. I was gifted an X25 years back and hated it at first, but once i got used to it there was no going back. Im wondering it there is a way to keep the axe head as is and put on a wood handle???
Any pics of what it looks like? Similar to the X27 head? It was a PITA to get the "plastic" off of it when it broke.
I could see where it might work as a splitting wedge. Never thought about that. Putting a wood handle on with the axe head as is would require more brain storming. I will probably go to sleep tonight with that one on my mind.
The cutting edge and hammer end were not parallel so when i hit it with a sledge it tilted to one side. I seldom do sledge and wedge anymore or avoid wood needing it where possible. The plastic handle as is almost fits into the socket of an axe head i have. Im thinking fabricating it like a new wood handle and fitting. Im just not sure how to secure it as i have no wood or metal wedges. Cut a slot, dry fit and fill with epoxy maybe?
I thought about maybe trying something like that but the leverage that is created from having the weight of the axe head out there like that I did not think it would hold up as well. You could get a piece of wood longer than what you show in the picture and then put a couple of bolts sideways through the handle to help hold it in place along with epoxy like your talking about.
Udate on the Brad X 27. Put a leather guard on it. Made from an old belt. The leather does a really good job of protecting the wood if hit by accident. Something I do on occasion. I have probably split a cord and a half of lodge pole pine now with the X27.
Lookin even better there Roger! Hope your pants dont fall down while splitting. Oh and its no longer an X27...its an MC27 deluxe!
Thank goodness I have more than one belt. Ok I was little slow and had to think for a minute. MagCraft27 deluxe. Thanks Brad.
